Biblical Families: Who and What

In exploring this site, it is fair to ask right off:
* Who are the people at Biblical Families? and
* What is their standard? What are their absolutes?

BiblicalFamilies.org is, as stated on our front page, a Christian site.

We have members who are Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Mennonite, Seventh-day Adventist, Assembly of God, Pentecostal, Messianic, and probably most everything else. Some members have been kicked out of their denominations over their belief in PM, and have no current church affiliation. Some are Catholic. Or even Agnostic, but with an understanding and acceptance of who and what this site is.

Some members focus on the New Testament, others on the Old. Some attend church on Sunday, others on Saturday, others on a basis that can vary from month to month depending on the New Moon. Some speak in tongues, others don't. Some make their living in ministry, others are truck drivers, medical personnel, homemakers, businessmen.

Yup, we are pretty varied. Yet, we usually work amazingly well together. Why? What do we hold in common? Two things stand out:

* The belief that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, and
* Sola Scriptura as our standard.

This doesn't mean that we don't bring in history, or the commentary of theologians, or many other resources for consideration and discussion. We do. You may find quotes from Wigglesworth, Luther, Finney, White, and more. What it means is that when the rubber meets the road, the Bible wins. Period. To the best of our understanding -- which may remain at some variance, and that is ok, we're not into control. We are into unity, not total compulsory uniformity.

It is also probably important to state what we are NOT.

We are not Mormon. We reject the book of Mormon and other extra-Biblical teachings of the Mormon church as having any validity or authority in this group. Other sites are appropriate if that is the view of spirituality and family life you seek.

We are not Moslems. The same goes for the Koran. Not seen as divine, inspired, or authoritative. If that's your frame of reference, you will not be comfortable here.

We have found that Jehovah's Witnesses do not do well here, due to their own view of the nature of Christ, as well as their reliance on a version of the Bible which the rest of us consider to contain unacceptable changes.

We are not Roman Catholic, and while there are Catholics among us, this site does not recognize the pope as being or having any more authority than any other man. Specifically, his pronouncements and those of his predecessors do NOT carry more weight or authority in this group than does the Bible itself.

Obviously, we are not Pagan, Wiccan, Hindu, Buddhist, African Tribal, etc. Our interest, beliefs, theories and practice about family and marriage are taken, as closely as we can manage, strictly from the Word of God, the Bible.

With all that in mind, Welcome! Dive in and enjoy!
