CULTURAL TRENDS MUST NOT DEFINE BIBLICAL HERMENEUTIC

Biblical Hermeneutics–proper interpretation of Scriptural principles/truth

One of Satan’s most consistent attempts at deception is to undermine the authority of Scripture.

In the Garden of Eden, Satan attempted to “spin” God’s Word.
In the Temptation of Jesus, Satan attempted to “twist” God’s Word.
In the Church of the 21st century, Satan is attempting to “discredit” God’s Word.
Churches that began in revival fire that impacted cities and even nations, have frequently abandoned Scriptural truth in order to be “politically correct.” For example: same sex marriages, abortion, etc., often capture the media headlines. Those believers (churches) who stand for Biblical truth are berated, intimidated, and categorized as extremists.

But, there is something even more basically foundational–very subtle and destructive– at the core of Satan’s deceptive lies, than these (very important) issues. If/when cultural experience is successful in defining Scriptural hermeneutic in/for the Church of Jesus Christ, the whole foundation of faith begins to crumble. And, if one portion of Scripture is questionable to a particular segment of culture or the church, then how can other truths be defended? The attempt to evaluate Scripture by human intellect and cultural experience alone, discounting the Spirit’s revelation and divine inspiration is an enticing pathway for the carnal mind.

The obvious cannot be long in coming into the body of believers. Think about it.

Does it matter if leaders in the local Church do not meet Scriptural qualifications?

Do we cease to declare “Thus saith the Lord” and “Thou shall not” for fear of being offensive?

Has the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-18; Acts 1:8) been altered?

Do our attempts at “excellence” overshadow the dependence on the Holy Spirit?

Do we allow “cultural trends” to establish the path for HIS Church?

Do we lead or follow?

Faith (for salvation) comes by hearing the Word of God!

Revival comes by returning to the Word of God!

Sanctification (spiritual maturity) comes by obeying the Word of God!

Thank you so much for your post. Its raises important questions. I am interseted in reading more from you. bro larry

wow!

somehow I missed this one, thanx for bringing it back, peb :D

I personally believe, ( meaning, I expect people who will not agree, and some will try to convince me that my thinking is wrong.) now then this belief is not based on reading or teachings from someone or some where? No, this is my belief from observing the world around me.
In America church and state are "supposed" to be separate. But what has happened is that we, as a country have created career politician. These people have found that a good place to collect friends and funds is in their local organizational worship service, the "Church"
There fore as they continue to be active in the church and raise though the political ranks. They gain power over the direction of the church.
Is everyone that is political active or holds office guilty of this type of behavior? No but is it there? Yes! I believe so. The mayor of our city was a well off man before he was elected. And was a member of the church I attend before he was elected. So there for tithed. Now that he is in office, you think that he is going to want to be associated with a church that is against---- what ever the hot button of the day is--- ? No, is the church run by the whole of its membership? No! It is run by a select few men that are successful in the community. Here is where it goes bad. Human nature is to do the best you can to get what you want for what you believe in. The man that is the mayor says ( for example) if the church is the one that is on the news saying they are against( fill in the blank with what ever the hot button of the day is) I will have to take my membership and my political pull and influence some where else. So then the rest of the elders or council members say if we want that curb cut or no parking zone - what ever it maybe- we need to quietly allow the (gay marriage or blank blank blank. )
So then the rest of the congregation mindlessly sits by and allows it to happen. Why? Because they are sheep and eating where they are told. And not questioning who they are following. More people need to read and find out what the Bible says for them selves. That way when they are told to eat dead brown unfilling grass. They will know that the Lord almighty has fresh green clover for them if the will just choose to follow the Holy Spirit instead of men whose interest are self motivated.
Thank you Doc for the original post and thank you Pebbles for opening this thread again.
I think the truth of the Bible and the Lord on high should be followed instead of worrying about what other people may think of you or your points of view

Great post Doc! ... God's Holy Word is our standard... We are to read it, not read into it... Not merely read it and be hearers only, but DOERS of it! "For man shall not live on bread alone, but on God's WORD!" ... Thank God for His Word!
