These were really interesting!
Talking about countries and continents, I recently was doing geography with the kids and struggling to find resources to teach them about the continents.
According to popular but untrue theory, the continent that I am on is called Australia. New Zealand is Australia, Fiji is Australia, Australia is Australia.
Australia is a country NOT a continent.
The next option is Australasia. This covers Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and a few of the small islands.
The fully correct option is Oceania, which covers Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and all of the little pacific islands.
There is no teachable online resource that I could find that uses Oceania, or even Australasia. Even the continents song on Youtube is wrong. It is very frustrating.
But even worse than all that, was when I tried to explain this to people I know that live in this country and have their whole lives, they also thought we lived in the continent of Australia.
