FAQ: Might God Have Planned PM From the Beginning?

Is PM something that Man came up with when God wasn't looking? Or is it possible that God foresaw it and planned it from the beginning?

Is it even possible *gasp* that the seeds of PM were contained within the Divine declarations of Creation Week?

The following argument is based on the idea that when God spoke during Creation Week, saying that "It isn't good for man to be alone," that statement both became natural law AND applied to all mankind, since man had not yet been differentiated into male & female.

The idea, therefore, is that it is God's Plan A for each of His children to live life within a marriage, rather than alone. (Please note that this statement does not say it is WRONG to be celibate or single. Only that it is God's Plan A for all His Kids.)

If you find this idea invalid, don't bother reading the rest of the post. But if it just MIGHT be right ...

Given that Man had not yet been differentiated into Male & Female, and that therefore the pronouncement applied to all Mankind -- it is NOT GOOD for man to be alone ...

Monogamy was just fine so long as the number of males & females was precisely identical. But the moment that they became unequal, God was faced with a fairly finite number of choices:
* He could refuse further involvement, but scripture is clear that He hasn't done that.
* He could change the natural law which His words had created, so that it would be good to be alone. But it was already perfect.
* Plenty of dirt still around -- He coulda made more males.
* He coulda asked for volunteers to die from among the females.
* Everyone could be born male, and at the appropriate age they could take a nap & lose a rib.
* Everyone could be born androgynous (no gender) and at the appropriate age, upon selecting a mate, one could eat a banana and the other a melon, and grow the appropriate stuff.
* Everyone could be born hermaphrodite (both genders) and at the appropriate age ... one set would shrivel.

(This can go on a while. But eventually one arrives at the following option ... )

* He could say, "You two and you three, play nice and make families!"

And that is precisely the option we find in play throughout Scripture! Yay, God!

Perhaps, just maybe, Plural Marriage is God's perfect provision in this area for an imperfect world. Whaddaya think? Got a better solution? :?
