It is very interesting. However it's a bit misleading too.
- The places where polygamy is supposedly "illegal", in most cases just don't recognise polygamous unions legally. There is no law against de-facto polygamy in most of these countries, so it is misleading to call polygamy "illegal".
- A number of the countries where polygamy is "legal" may only allow it for Muslims due to a recognition of Sharia law, and may ban it for non-Muslims.
So it's a fascinating place to start, but don't think "Hey, Indonesia is blue, let's move there" - check the details of the law first because all may not be as it seems! The map is a good guide where to start looking though.
If any of our Aussie members really want legal recognition for a second marriage, looks like they just need to get married abroad and come back home again. Interesting. That's like how my great-great-grandfather wanted to marry his deceased wife's sister, the Anglican church wouldn't let him in England, so they got married in Scotland then came home again. Which just goes to show that legal marriage has been completely ridiculous for centuries...
