Mark Driscoll - getting real with men

AMEN!

Yes, very good video. I've been watching his videos for years; his passion certainly comes through in nearly anything he preaches, and he also seems to have a gift for relating the events in his life to scripture such that the stories he tells in his sermons often make the application 'pop'. For those who don't know of him, I recommend that you check all the sermon videos from the Mars Hill church in Seattle where he preaches: http://marshill.com/media/sermons?direction=desc&order_by=date I've also read a number of his books, and have tried most of the churches planted by the Acts 29 organization he founded (as I recall) in the areas I've lived.

Though I've never heard him address the subject of polygyny before, I found this after watching the video: http://theresurgence.com/2009/11/02/is-polygamy-biblical. Perhaps needless to say, I was disappointed to read his position on this; particularly the lack of any serious consideration of the scriptures relating to polygyny that really matter. I never expected to hear such a 'hand-waving' argument from him.

However, I also found this in response to Pastor Mark's post: http://www.pulpitandpen.com/2009/11/driscolls-take-on-polygamy.html. Though I'd never heard of this pastor before, I liked much of his critique; particularly the sixth and seventh paragraphs.

Makes me want to start enumerating all the monogamous marriages in the Bible which had problems.

Why, In our modern age, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot were all monogamists! God overlooked monogamy in Scripture, never having explicitly approved of it. But in our modern age, it should clearly be BANNED!

Yes!

And as I saw someone post on BF not long ago, Adam married all the available women on the planet; thus monogamy in this current world is clearly not God's intent!

(That one really gave me a chuckle :))
