Why did God form us from the dust of the ground? I believe Jesus lays it plain in Luke 8, while speaking in parable. (ironically while concealing His meaning) We are the soil that God intends to sow seed into, in this case and primarily the seed being the Word of God (Jesus Himself, if you will).
God could have formed us from rocks... or trees... or clouds... if He wanted to. But His actions are not arbitrary. "The first moves sets up the last". His actions are also His intentions. His creation is also His lesson plan.
This might also tell us something of the nature and purpose of angels, seeing as He seems to have made them from wind and fire. But I don't know anything about that.
