Observations from the garden

I was working on a teaching video and noticed some things in Genesis that I hadn't seen before.

1) Adam and Eve weren't cursed in the Garden. The serpent was cursed for his crime, and the ground was cursed for Adam's sake, but the burdens put on Adam and Eve themselves are not referred to as curses.

2) Adam didn't name Eve with her personal name until after God had pronounced their not-curses. The whole time in the garden, Eve was apparently simply 'the woman' to him.

3) The serpent was cursed BECAUSE of what it had done. The ground was cursed BECAUSE Adam listened to his wife and ate the fruit. But God does not tell Eve that her sorrows will increase for any particular reason. Her not-curse isn't specifically designated as having a particular cause.

And really that's all I have. Just weird little things that i noticed.

In English, between Honey, Darlin, Dear and Sister I have it covered. The old ladies love being called Darlin.

In Spanish it's even easier, the younger ones are Mi Amor and the older ones are Mi Reina (my love and my queen).

Sometimes I give women unique names. It isn't uncommon for the names to stick. I'm told it's a gift I inherited from my grandfather. One woman was introduced to me as Priscilla-Patricia (seriously, with a hyphen) and I said "Oh no, we aren't having any of that around here. You're Pookie." Twenty-five years later she's still Pookie. I find that it's so much easier to remember names when I hand them out.
