Its Human Arogance to try to create G-d in our own image. It's our flesh that makes us rely on our own interpretations of scripture, to justify our cultural interpretations and anger with G-d when things don't go our way. We were warned against it, but we're all guilty of it.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in Adonai with all your heart;
do not rely on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him;
then he will level your paths.

As were discussing the topics of Physical Safety, Happiness, Financial Prosperity, amongst others please keep in mind a G-d always keeps the promises he makes us.

  • Proverbs 21:31 "safety is of Adonai"
  • Deuteronomy 33:12 "The beloved of Adonai shall dwell in safety by Him; and Adonai shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between His shoulders."
  • Psalms 4:8 "I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for Thou, Adonai, only makest me dwell in safety."
  • Leviticus 25:18 "Wherefore ye shall do My Statutes, and keep My Judgments, and do them; and ye shall dwell in the land in safety."
  • Psalms 3:5 "I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for Adonai sustained me."
  • Proverbs 3:24-26 "When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For Adonai shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken."
  • Proverbs 1:33 "But whoso hearkeneth unto Me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil."
  • 1 Samuel 2:9 "He will keep the feet of His saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail."
  • Psalms 112:4,7 "Unto the upright there ariseth Light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in Adonai."
  • Proverbs 14:26 "In the fear of Adonai is strong confidence: and His children shall have A Place Of Refuge."
  • Isaiah 26:3 "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee."
  • Isaiah 55:3 "Incline your ear, and come unto Me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an Everlasting Covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David."
  • Proverb 2:8 "He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of His saints."
  • Proverb 18:10 "The Name of Adonai is a Strong Tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe."
  • 2 Samuel 22:2-3 "Adonai is my Rock, and my Fortress, and my Deliverer; the G-d of my Rock; in Him will I trust: He is my Shield, and the horn of my Salvation (Yeshu‘ati), my High Tower, and my Refuge, my Saviour ; Thou savest me from violence."
  • Psalms 61:3 "For Thou hast been a Shelter for me, and a Strong Tower from the enemy."
  • Proverb 29:25 "The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in Adonai shall be safe."
  • Psalms 91:1 "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."
  • Psalms 91:3 "Surely He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence."
  • 2 Timothy 1:12 "For I know Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day."
  • 2 Thessalonians 3:3,4 "But Adonai is faithful, Who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil."
  • Psalms 121:8 "Adonai shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
All these verses about safety or protection were written in times when the physical safety (that is what we think of when we hear the word safety and that is very important to our flesh) was not a guaranty. I guess its because hind sight is 20/20, but I am unable to see how anyone ever thought theses were about physical saftey. Expecially after we were told we would suffer for loving HIM.

Happiness is a temporary emotional state of being content with our surroundings. I've never found in scripture where we were promised happiness. I've found where some Yahoo translated joy, one of the fruits of Rauch Hakodesh which we were promised, as happiness but that is inaccurate. Joy is something that beleivers share willingly. Happiness is something the selfish cling to afraid to lose their contentment. This is not the type of contentment that comes from the fruits of the spirit but from complacency.

  • Proverbs 15:30 A cheerful glance brings joy to the heart, and good news invigorates the bones
  • Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, self control. Nothing in the Torah stands against such things
  • Isaiah 61:10 I am so joyful in ADONAI! My soul rejoices in my G-d, for he has clothed me in salvation, dressed me with a robe of triumph, like a bridegroom wearing a festive turban, like a bride adorned with her jewels.
  • Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice with all your heart, daughter of Tziyon! Shout out loud, daughter of Yerushalayim! Look! Your king is coming to you. He is righteous, and he is victorious. Yet he is humble - he's riding on a donkey, yes, on a lowly donkey's colt
  • Romans 15:13 May God, the source of hope, fill you completely with joy and shalom as you continue trusting, so that by the power of the Ruach HaKodesh you may overflow with hope.
  • Proverbs 1:32 For the aimless wandering of the thoughtless will kill them, and the smug overconfidence (complacency) of fools will destroy them;
  • Proverbs 13:4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied
  • Zephaniah 1:12 When that time comes, I will search Yerushalayim with lamps and punish those who are smug and thick, (complacent) like wine left too long on its dregs, who say to themselves, 'ADONAI will do nothing - neither good nor bad.'
  • Hebrews 5:11-12 We have much to say about this subject, but it is hard to explain, because you have become sluggish in understanding. For although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the very first principles of G-d's Word all over again! You need milk, not solid food!
The idea that being a Christian we should always be in a perpetual state of Happiness, that we are suppose to be content with the world because we're happy is a dangerous cultral ideology. This type of Contentment breeds complacency. We as beleivers should be eternally joyful for our salvation and content with the fruits of Rauch Hakodesh no matter our circumstances but never happy and content with this world of flesh. When we find Happiness in this world it's because our flesh is being satisfied. We found contentment in the flesh. My flesh is sinful in nature how about yours?

The Prosperity Gospel, just thinking about this subject turns my stomach. All I have to say on the subject for now is if your reading scripture and you interpret it as G-d wants you to be Finicialy rich and wealthy (fleshly desire) and that to do so you must tithe to the church, first turn the Channel from the Joel Osteen program, please re-read the scripture and ask for guidance of Rauch Hakodesh. That being said, I'm not saying being wealthy is sinful or "bad" in any way. I am not saying don't spend your money on good works. G-d blesses us in many ways. Sometimes those blessings lead to Finicial wind falls. Most of the time wealth comes from hard work and dillegence. Either way we are just stewards of that wealth. Use it wisely to benifit HIS kingdom, not to satisfy your flesh or pad the pockets of some megachurch evangelist who a masses a great fortune in the name of Adonai yet spends only a small fraction on good works while buying themselves several multimillion dollar mansions, luxury cars and jets. Living like earthly princes off of money that is supposed to be used to glorify HIS Kingdom.
