Pastor Saint said he was going to address arguments for polygyny made here on biblicalfamilies. I figured we could make a list of questions for him to start with. Feel free to add questions that come to mind.

Questions:

Where specifically does God command mankind not to have more than one wife?

What is the classification of sin that polygyny falls under?

If polygyny is a sin, is it a sin that is comparable to murder or homosexuality, as you seem to have implied in your video?

If polygyny is a sin that is essentially on the same level as homosexuality, were the patriarchs who practiced polygyny their whole lives, basically the same as unrepentant homosexuals?

If polygyny is a sin, what penalty does God give in Scripture for committing said act?

Why did God rebuke David for committing adultery with Bathsheba, but not for his previous 10-20 wives?

Why did God say this in 1 Kings 15:5 ?
“Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.”

If having more than one wife is adultery, how did David do that which was right in the sight of God when God said in Exodus 20:14 “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”

Why did God tell David that He gave him his master’s wives into his embrace? And also stated that He would have given him more if that hadn’t been enough?

Why did God allow the child, born of adultery between David and Bathsheba, to die, but blessed the child (Solomon) conceived after David took her as his wife?

Please explain how in the following passage, Joash had two wives and simultaneously was doing that which was right in the sight of God? 2 Chronicles 24:2-3 KJV
And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest. [3] And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.

If taking more than one wife is sinful because it could create rivalry, is it therefore also a sin to have more than one child because it could cause sibling rivalry?

If polygyny is sin. Why would God model himself acting in sin with his marriages to two sisters, Ahola (Samaria/Israel) and Aholiba (Jerusalem/Judah)?

Jeremiah 3 & 31:27,31-32
Ezekiel 16 & 22

If polygyny is sinful. Please reconcile the following passages.

These passages tell us that all of God’s commands and instructions are right and good. Keeping His commands brings blessings.
Psalm 19:7-14
2 Timothy 3:16-17

Here are two commands regarding polygyny.
  1. Deuteronomy 21:15-17
  2. Exodus 21:10
If a man keeps these commands God says it is good, but you say keeping these commands is sin. Something is wrong here, the idea that polygyny is sin does not agree with the whole council of scripture.

Furthermore, why would Jesus Himself speak of His Father arranging plural marriages for Him if this form of marriage is somehow wrong or sinful? Laying the charge of sin at the feet of God sounds awfully similar to blasphemy to me.

Matthew 22:1-10 & 25:1-13

You need to read the Greek because the translators changed the plural words (γάμους‚ gamous) to singular forms in english. The singular Greek word is (γάμου gamos) this is contrary to what Jesus clearly said when He spoke plural forms saying “marriages”.

So we have God the Father saying He married two sisters in the OT, and God the Son saying the Father arranged marriages for Him, and He took 5 virgins in unto the marriages.

The sin of blasphemy is a serious one.

Are you sure you’re the right one to take this on? The weakness of your reasoning is so bad that you will either convince people we are right or that Christianity is false.
Love it!

.....but really, the danger in false doctrine is that once exposed as false it can cause people without a solid foundation of faith to stumble and fall. The Chinese church that believed they would be raptured away before tribulation didn't have the strength to keep the faith THROUGH the tribulation they faced.

People should remember these words of Jesus.

"These things have I spoken unto you that in me ye might have peace: in the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
John 16:33
