Re: Messianic Conference B'nai Yahshua SYnagogues Worldwide

Hi all, I wanted to bring this thread up for 2 reasons, first to say that I've just had a great report from Ali on this conference, and I'm expected the same from Cecil soon, those who have a Messianic background or calling will want to consider attending this next year. I want to apologize to Rav Moshe for not being able to make it myself, (I had hoped to get down for at least one day), but family commitments and some sickness kept me away.
Secondly, hopefully we can get Ali, Cecil, Cindy, Moshe and Revkah to comment and give the rest of us some insight on how it was.

(I hear from Sir Bumbleberry that perhaps Ali is too good for Steve.... no, no, no, it must have been she's really "good to Steve"! Actually, it was great for Julie and I to each get to spend 45 minutes or so with Ali, on her way to and from the conference - and our respect for Steve goes up, just for his good taste.)

i figured that i would send ali down as she is the one who is housetrained
i did really good today, though :D

My observations are those of an interested guest, rather than of a denominational member or leadership.

Due to business, we (Cindy, Mrs. Pussycat, Sir BumbleBerry, and I *grin*) were unable to arrive until half way through the conference. However, what we did take in was very interesting.

I'd guess there were between 30 and 50 people present, from across the States and as far away as Australia.

Rav Moshe had a lot of good stuff to say about Romans, Paul, and the relationship of believers to Torah. I most appreciate his comments (personally paraphrased) that God's purpose in giving us Torah is to help us live more loving lives, and that if we're using it as a bat to hit folks upside the head, or to force them to "behave", we've missed the boat. (Sorry, Sir Ravioli, if I got that a bit wrong. *grin*)

I particularly enjoyed to talk by a Rabbi from Oregon ("GO DUCKS!") about the right "bad" women of the Bible such as Tamar and Rahab, and the scarlet thread as opposed to the cord, and the significance to be found therein. Rather than try to explain his teaching, I'll try to get him onto the list and then we can pester him to write it out.

A lady from Orlando gave a REALLY thought provoking talk on health, and a way of diagnosing and healing the mental / emotional component of illness called "new german medicine". Google it under that term. Due to previous research of my own, I believe it likely to be really helpful.

Ali Turner, Steve's wife, was present and told her story or emotional and theological movement re PM from "Over my dead body!" to "Bring it ON already!" Quite a story. Quite a lady. Cindy and I enjoyed her very much.

She also led congregational worship at the piano. I do believe the Holy Spirit, Baruch Hashem for those who prefer, was present. I was privileged to accompany her on the last day on a drum, which seemed to go nuts during the praise. The drum did, that is. Surely that couldn't have been ME playing? I've never played quite like that before!

What else? The men pretty much all wore yarmulkes of one sort or another. I thought Jews all wore the sort-of-flat "beanie" on the crown, and that fuller hats were a muslim thing. You learn interesting stuff around these folks. I ended up with a fuller style with "Holy to Yahweh" embroidered on it in gold in Hebrew. Leastwise, I understand that is what it said. It certainly is the cry of my heart to fulfill that dedication.

We also became friends with a vendor and his wife from GA who had brought a number of jewish traditional items for sale, such as phylactories, rams' horns, and silver post trumpets. Ok, you can see my interests. They also had anointing oil, fringes (tzit tzit), prayer shawls (tallit), and such. I got a large ram's horn, called a shofar, but will have to wait on the silver trumpet. They cost a bit AND all sold out. Don't worry, the meeting room was definitely a house of prayer!

What was kinda fun on that score, though, was during the praise and worship times when suddenly one or more of them would burst forth. Very different to my ultra-conservative Seventh-day Adventist upbringing, but also both interesting and inspirational. I talked to our music director at my home church yesterday, and may just do the same next sabbath during the chorus of "Days of Elijah". "... at the trumpet call ...", which I understand is actually the shofar in the original.

Good stuff. We look forward to continuing in fellowship with these lovely and loving folks.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Rav Moshe, (Rav Ioli, as I have nicknamed him,) Rivkah, Cec, Cindy, Nathan and Julie for making my trip to FL so interesting and enjoyable. I learned much, was deeply challenged, rescued by Nathan and Julie's generous use of a spare car so I could actually get to the right city for the conference  and all in all had a blast. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if Steve were there. (Gentlemen, start your engines!)

Rav Mark from Oregon gave insight into the temple in Jerusalem that made me feel like I could actually understand the space/time continuum (sp?) and that Einstein was teaching if he had been a spirit filled believer.

Rav Moshe gave one of the best expository messages on Romans that I have ever heard.

Amen to Cec's discussion of Viyeta's presentation on health. Fascinating and revelatory.

As they say, "a good time was had by all."

Thanks again to all of you for making it happen for me.
Shalom,
Ali
