20 Acres and a Cabin

Love that!

Cool.... good way to build a community.. own a huge piece of property then parcel to friends and family..... self built cabins would significantly lower costs...

Wow--that strikes me as amazing that a group has become well enough structured to be able to invite like-minded others to join with this sort of opportunity!

Nice pic!! Looks great!

What Mage said, but with the proviso that in my experience the barndominium isn't exactly a tax dodge (although that may be a nice side effect) and isn't all house on the inside. More like a larger metal shop or barn building with an apartment (condo) built into one end or one corner of it. Two examples from my experience are a guy in Houston who lived in his airplane hangar (in a pretty amazing luxury apartment), and a guy in Brenham who lived in his shop. In both cases, the living quarters were upstairs above an office area on the ground floor, and the rest of the floor space was open, high-ceilinged warehouse/shop space.

Note that the ad says "barndominium shell" and you get the idea. Most of the building is open; part of it is set aside for condominium-style living quarters.

Riffing a bit (just a guess, but a legally-educated guess), besides just being a cute name, if the -dominium part actually implies a true condominium regime, then perhaps the two parts of the building are different property with different ownership and are taxed differently. Don't remember anybody mentioning that, though, and it may just be a cute name that stuck....
