Family support...

You might be surprised to find that some individuals in your family will offer support...

I was pleasantly surprised by my oldest sister today. I had emailed her to inform her of my new cell phone number. She replied asking me what I had been up to. Since I had not communicated with her recently I gave her an explanation of the two main causes I am participating in...Polygyny...its legal status and religious acceptance. She knows I am not a Mormon, but I sent her a link to the news of bigamy being challenged in Texas as a part of my reply to her.

I received this reply:

Hi Mark,

I am not a fan of the Mormon church but I don't think polygamy should be illegal. I have an issue with our culture and a question.
Why are there 5-7 women my age for every man? Were 5-6 of the 7 meant to be alone?
None of this makes sense to me...I don't think this is God's way...

I am proud of you for using your mind, thinking outside of the box and standing up for what you believe...

Love,
Ann

I edited out portions that were not pertinent to this topic but everything was positive.

Cool! And you just HAPPEN to know a place where you could hook her up with other like-minded Christians!

I just learned a little more...thought some might be interested...

"I think you are right about polygamy. About 14 years ago I would have become a 2nd wife to a very prominent man here if it was not taboo to have two wives. Many women my age are miserable because they would like to have a husband but the odds are 10 women to one man and they are not likely to remarry. It is not impossible but the odds are definitely not in their favor. I don't think it is God's will for so many women to be alone in the world."

Wow.

This is very encouraging news to hear Mark!!!!

So excited for you. Hopefully this will spread through other families as well!

Family support can be a big help or hindrance depending on how it is presented to them. Lacey and I went to my mom and told her what we wanted or was attempting to do. She advised me that it is my life and that she was not going to judge me regardless of how she felt. I am pleased to say that it does not bother her like it did when we first talked about it with her. She has met Vanessa and I honestly don't think Vanessa can say that my mom didn't treated her with much respect. I think one thing that made it easy was Lacey and my mom are best friends and she loves Lacey. The rest of my family are comfortable with what I am doing. It has been a big help to know my family has accepted how I want to live my life. I do know that if she was not understanding then she could have made the whole family meeting situation terrible. I hope that things continue to blossom but only time will tell. All I can do is pray and ask God to give me the strength to handle what is thrown at me.

God Bless,

The Hunt Family
