What is your favorite scripture?

Here is mine

Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight"

Psa 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Psa 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Only one? Ya gotta be kiddin'... (to paraphrase Cecil's 'altar-ego' ;) )

How about a few (same theme, tho...)

Starting with Deuteronomy 6:4 -- (Matthew, Mark, and Luke all report His teaching of this verse, of course)

"Hear, O Israel: YHVH Elohenu, YHVH Echad: And thou shalt love YHVH your Elohenu with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.

And Deuteronomy 30:19-20 --

"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, [that] I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both your and your seed may live:

that you may love YHVH your Elohenu, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days...

And, of course, another summary of those things, and others:

"If you love Me, you will keep My commandments."

Hebrews 4:2

For unto us was the Gospel preached, as well as unto them, but the Word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Blessings

Nice!

My favorite scriptural passages are also in Proverbs.

Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. (KJV)

Proverbs 27:19 As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man.

These verses signify to me that how we are as a person is in large part determined by how we think and what our hearts are set on. Therefore, if we wanted to change the way we are, we can do so by changing our thinking and setting our hearts in the right place.

This is so hard because my favorite changes with the seasons of life. However, one of my favorites is one that comes from my deep sense of my own sinfulness outside of Christ. For although I am deeply ashamed of my sin, "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth" (Romans 1:16).

Mine has always been Psalm 91:1-2

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in Him I will trust."

Blessings,

I like different verses from certain translations:

These two passages got me through my college days:

Proverbs 3:5-6 (King James Version)
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Isaiah 30:21 (King James Version)
21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left

These are the two powerful passages that have been getting me through my life right now:

Hebrews 4:12 (Amplified Bible)
12 For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the [a]breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

Matthew 7:6 (King James Version)
6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

I have been thinking of one of my top ten today, and here it is:

Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. (Psalms 103:1-5)

This passage tugs on my heart strings every time I read it. Having been in the miry clay more than one time in my life, I am so thankful for the merciful grace of God that reaches down to pull someone like myself out of that pit, to wash my feet, and then to hold me in His arms while I cry. His lovingkindness is certainly better than life itself! Thank you God for forgiving me, delivering me, and crowning me with your lovingkindness and tender mercies. You are awesome!

Blessings!

Psalm 30:5 (ESV)- For his anger is but for a moment, and is favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

This single verse has gotten me through so many hard times, more than I can ever count. I have leaned on this promise for so many years, and each time it is fulfilled in my life is sweeter than the last. I have been so blessed that even though God gives me the valleys of life, he also gives me those mountaintop experiences whereby he shows me so much love and grace. I have spent many sleepless nights crying over one thing or another but each time the promise holds so true, and even though my heart may still be breaking the next morning there is joy there due to the fact that my God is a God who gives that deep joy and provides for all my needs. I hope this blesses you as much as it blesses me each and every time I read it.

Psalm 30:5 (King James Version)

5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

To me, this is a promise that whatever we endure, there is always tomorrow to look forward to. No matter how bad things feel, there is always something better coming to us.

Thank for posting. All the scriptures are wonderful

"I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me, and the life I live in the flesh I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20. This was the first verse I memorized the year I became a Christian, circa 1970. I suppose this is an echo or expansion of the vine and the branches teaching in the Gospels. God bless! Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. -- James 1:27 KJV

Since my early teens. Raised with more rules than you could shake a stick at. Couldn't keep up with them all and found some of them ridiculous and unbiblical. Knew myself well enough to doubt I could even manage the deepness of the 10 commandments well.

But felt as though I could wrap myself around this simple definition, the first half at least. And perhaps God could help with the second part, as that might well involve a frequent washing in the Blood ...

Amused, years later, to realize that it was a call to polygyny and adoption.

How does a polygynous family adopt Cecil. It seems that there are so many rules involved, that it would be impossible. Keep in mind, I haven't looked indepth yet, however.

True. But with a slight typographical change is may fall within the realm of reasonable expectations.

While it is difficult for a polyfunnymouse family to ADOPT Cecil, it is sometimes possible to ADAPT him.

Cecil,
I have only one question before we adopt you...

Are you housebroken?

SweetLissa

Cecil, do you bed wet?
