Mormon Polygamy on Trial: Day 7 Notes from the Courtroom
Courtroom notes: (READER BEWARE: This is not an authorized transcript and I am not a court stenographer. Many of the statements are paraphrased and while I have made my best efforts to represent the events, it is certainly possible that I have made mistakes in this record)

Some of you know a little bit about me and some of you don't know who I am because I don't post often. So just to re-cap I am a non-denominational Born Again Christian. I have had two very bad poly experances. And have been tramitiezed by both. Neither being morman, one being non-christian all together (and arguably neither was the second but it was a religiouse head trip). When I read this expert witness say

Dr. Beall characterized a typical diagnosis for a woman from a polygamous community. It uses a 5 point axis that was developed - characterizes symptoms presented, personality disorders, medical problems (esp those that link to mental), stressors and level of functioning. Axis 1 is a PST disorder. Many of his patients had psychologically traumatic events that impacted them seriously. This becomes intrusive experience, ie flashbacks and nightmares. PSTD is the only disorder that is based upon an event where memories from the event intrude on present functioning. Post Trauma was common in his FLDS patients. This was more common in women but also present in men.

I believe this to be true. Howere of course monogomist relationships can have the same affects. Men be good to all woman, be it a girl your courting or your wife, daughter even a stranger. We brake and once broken we aren't easly fixed.

Here's a little mood song.

I am so sorry to hear of the bad experiences.

I pray and hope in due time more and more solid, theologicaly well versed, premium character type Evangelicals will rise up within this movement so as to offer true men of love, grace, and truth.

Roger that, Dr. Allen!

Mary-ella,

Years ago I spent a great deal of time ministering in music in Victoria, and absolutely love B.C. I am also keenly aware of the level of spiritual warfare that is present both on the island as well as the interior; it is some of the most intense in all the provinces, as it sounds like you have experienced first hand.

May you find Yeshua to truly be the healer of your wounded heart and spirit, may you find comfort in the Spirit, and during the holiday season may the Father heart of God be poured out upon you in the "gentle torrents" that only He can tailor make and manifest to you. May Isa 54 (the whole chapter) speak to you in a new way.

Shalom,
Ali T

Thank you so much fellows. It's hard to not get emotional when you are reading these transcrips. I also wanted people to know where I'm comming from. Not only do I live in B.C but I recenntly moved from the Kootenays. Being out of the closet I have been called down and refured to the community in question. How ever I am not a member as perviousely mentioned. I want to share a few links with you, as the court will not be hearing this case untill tuesday.

As you may now the trial started November 23, 2010. The trial will decide whether current (anti) polygamy law is constitutional. This will afect all plural marragies be them godly or other wise.

First I am going to share with you a link from the Vancouver Sun. It's a artical with a personal account of a woman that has bennifited from the support of sister wives.

The woman is a resident of Bountiful, the small community in the Kootenays at the centre of a major trial opening Monday in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver.

The trial will decide whether Canada's polygamy law -- as laid out in Section 293 of the Criminal Code -- is constitutional.

So far, she says, she has had five "sister wives" who share the same husband "and I loved and still love all of them."

As a working wife, she says, she appreciated that her sister wives would tend to her toddlers, do the washing and have a clean home and a delicious supper waiting when she returned home.

is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.

Rights advocates claim the 1890 national law against polygamy violates guarantees to freedom of religion and association in Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
"Consenting adults have the right -- the Charter protected right -- to form the families that they want to form," she said.

Re: From inside the court room, a non-journalistic point of

I am not aware of a man made or God ordained institution that has not been abused or taken advantage of by those who chose to do so. Be it an unmarried man abusing his girlfriend, a monogamous marriage with abuse, or a polygamous marriage in which abuse is present; none of it is acceptable neither does it dictate the norm.

I do know that on an individual basis we tend to be attracted to a certain type of person, and that type of person may be more likely to exhibit particular behavior patterns. I do not claim to fully understand it, but I have read a number of different publications that make the observation that women in abusive relationships often end up in another abusive relationship once they have left the first one. I think it is likely that this is true for men as well, that they tend to look for a certain type of woman and if their first relationship does not work they often look for another woman who has similar characteristics not realizing their error.

This leads me to Albert Einstein's comment:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

We all need to be aware that we too tend to follow certain behavioral patterns and not allow them to lead us into a relationship that may be headed for the rocks.
