Healing Prayers

Last week our lead pastor's daughter was driving our youth pastor's daughter and 2 of their friends to a concert. She lost control of the car on the interstate, crossed the median and was t-boned by an SUV. The passengers in the SUV are fine. The 4 girls are definitely still in need of prayer. The driver only had a minor physical injury, but a great deal of emotional distress. The other girls have much more serious injuries and are still in the hospital (though seeing the car, it's amazing they survived at all). Below is the latest update shared by our youth pastor on his daughter's condition. She is the one with the most extensive injuries.

Sunday update: Some small victories today. Rylie's heart rate dropped through out the night from a steady 140 to the low 100s and high 90s. She responds to commands to open her eyes. She still does not squeeze hands, wiggle toes or track with her eyes. The dr. Would like to ween her off the ventilator and possibly do a trach. She has been initiating breaths so that is a good sign. They also are weening her off her ivs and giving meds and through her feeding tube. They want to eliminate anyplace that infection could set in. If she can get off the ventilator she is scheduled for cosmetic surgery tomorrow morning to fix some trauma to her face. Today we are celebrating small things like she yawned and moved her hand purposefully!

What he said. Praying.

I forgot to mention the families. The accident took place over an hour from our town, so it's a strain on the families to deal with travel to the hospital they are in and school starting up for their other children. They do have the blessing that associated churches in that town have stepped up and are providing meals for the families of the 2 who are still in ICU.

Will be praying for healing and needs to be met from others.

An update:

Rylie continues to improve. She is no longer on the ventilator, the surgeries on her leg and face are done. She has been awake and seems to comprehend questions asked, but cannot speak due to the tracheotomy. She has some control over her limbs and is no longer having danger of too much pressure on her brain. They have moved her to the most highly recommended rehab center in that city, which is a blessing since it is pre-pay/self-pay and they did not have medical insurance. Apparently, the rep for the center found a program to cover the costs, or at least help. She is expected to be in rehab for at least 3 weeks.

Abby, the driver, is still struggling emotionally.

The other girl still in ICU had surgery delayed because of a collapsed lung, but I haven't heard anything beyond that.

The 4th girl is in rehab in the hospital and seems to be recovering well.

Thank you so much for your prayers. I know they are helping these girls and their families.

Praise God! Still praying!

Prayers are being answered for sure!

3 of the girls are out of hospitals altogether. One of them spent the shortest time possible in rehab, the medical staff was amazed at how quickly she progressed. 2 of them are still recuperating at home.

Rylie is still in the rehab center and is making progress every day. She had to get new glasses as hers were lost in the accident, but now that she has them can see and appears to be able to read. They were putting a special trach in so that she could start talking. The trach is only a precaution until she clears all of the debris from her throat. She's been regaining balance and able to sit up in a chair for short times and they've been doing multiple therapy sessions with her every day. The expected date for her to go home is still about a month away, but they are hopeful for a full recovery.

Our pastor shared on Sunday that the insurance adjuster who totaled out the car was in awe that anyone survived the accident at all.

Great report!! Thanks for the update. Still praying!

Here's an update from Rylie's dad. All the prayers are making such a big difference.

Rylie got her facial stitches out and is healing there. They capped her trach yesterday and have left it capped ever since. They started her on real food last night. She was able to eat some chicken nuggets and was able to chew and swallow without issues. If she can continue through Friday without needing oxygen or suction they will remover her trach and close up her throat on saturday! That would be great progress.

They delivered her a smaller wheel chair today that she can push herself with some practice. We can also fold it up and put it in the car. We are headed to a followup visit with the ortho. surgeon on Monday at Bryan West. We will be able to transport her in our car since the physical therapist showed us how to get her transferred from chair to seat.

She also was able to Walk about 70 feet in her walker. Pretty impressive for a girl who can't put wait on her right foot and hand. All good news. She continues to have a great attitude and tries everything they ask her without complaint.

She continues to talk about feeling like she is dreaming (a lot) since the last thing she remembers before waking up in the hospital is going to bed some night in the past. She is starting to do better at recalling things. She has been talking about family and friends visiting this weekend since Monday and counting down the days. Her speech therapist says her recall of the things they work on is better than last week too.

She was concerned about missing school. She keeps asking me when school starts. Then she asks me when her release date is. When I tell her Sept 24 she groans. I told her we can work hard in therapy and may have a chance of getting released early. Of course we will stay as long as she needs to to leave as healthy as possible. She was also disappointed in missing the state fair that starts tomorrow. For the most part her spirits are up so we are thankful!

The latest update from Rylie's dad:
Rylie's appointment with the Neurosurgeon went well. He told her he didn't need to see her again for any more follow ups! She was pleased with that. We are starting to get recommendations and prescriptions from her various therapists of what she will need at home when she gets there for safety and mobility. I have some minor demolition to do in the next few days.

Rylie remains in good spirits. She told me the other day that she was glad that she was the one that was injured the worst in the accident because she would hate if anything worse happened to them.

She is actually very funny about her accident. I wanted to share some tweets she has made recently.

@ryliefelton · Aug 29 - first i get in a car wreck then i loose at uno when will my life come together

@ryliefelton · Aug 30 - im not a metal head anymore

@ryliefelton · Aug 30 - by that i mean i got the staples out of my head

@ryliefelton · Sep 7 - ive been sitting in the same chair for over a month talk about lazy

@ryliefelton · Sep 8 - i make so many jokes about my situation i constantly make my nurses laugh

Just heard Rylie is having some pain in the back of her hand. The nurse said it looks like one of her pins is trying to poke through the skin on the top of her hand. They will hopefully have someone come look at it in the morning.

Rylie's next scheduled appointment is the 22nd with the orthopedic surgeon with a release date still being the 24th. I'm headed back to Lincoln for the weekend and then Thursday the 18th Cheri and I switch places for the last time and I will be with her through the 24th. Praying this hand gets figured out in the AM!

Also, the medical bills are in and are totaling up to about $200,000.00. There are several fundraisers that we've been doing as a church, but please pray for God's financial provision in this too.
