How To Preserve A Husband

The following are from "Mormon Cookin'", which Cecil picked up for me a few years ago. With all the discussion about men's and women's roles, I thought they were worth posting.

How to Preserve a Husband

Be careful in your selection; do not choose too young and take only such varieties as have been reared in a good moral atmosphere.

When once decided upon and settled, let that part remain forever settled and give your entire thought to preparation for domestic use. Some insist on keeping them in a pickle while others are constantly getting them in hot water.

Poor varieties made be made sweet, tender and good by garnishing therm with patience, well sweetened with smiles and flavored well with kisses to taste; then wrap well in a mantle of charity, keep warm with a steady fire of domestic devotion and serve with peaches and cream.

When thus prepared they will keep for years.

Housework is something you do that nobody notices unless you don't do it.

Any housewife, no matter how large her family, can always get some time to be alone by doing the dishes.

Lord, give me this day my daily opinnion and forgive me the one I had yesterday.

Meditations of a Housewife

Lord, it is 9 o'clock and he has gone to work. The kids are off to school. And again the daily shopping for food begins.

They say I am only a housewife. My ministry is to fill the empty stomachs of those I love. But sometimes, I grow weary of my humble tasks, peeling, slicing, chopping, mixing, and I envy others, the artisans who create, while I watch the kettle.

Sometimes I think they do not see the artistry that goes into a souffle. Their eyes are dull and they cannot know the pride I feel in a perfect meal. They say it is a simple thing to cook. But let them eat it raw, just once! Or even underdone or over-cooked. Then let them talk about unskilled hands in the kitchen.

Thanks, Lord, for listening. Amen.

the "alone time while doing dishes" was a knee-slapper.

steve, who gives his wife more "alone time" than any woman has a right to recieve :D

(i am an over-the-road truck-driver who is never home, thus her excessive alone time)

Ya know, I'm missing the good old days when you were just "Steve". :)

I appreciate the Steve who can spice up his name. ;)

When are you coming through this part of the world again Steve?

i appreciate the use of the "emoticon modifier". it might look too negative otherwise. ;)
btw, my wife may have an opinion about whether i have ever been "just" steve. and possibly not in a good way, she may be wishing that once in a while i would be "just" steve. :D

cindy, are you spending all of your time doing the dishes? yup, that'l give anyone too much alone time.
i delivered in savannah on monday, but had to head west immediately.
