The sons of Issachar ... for they had many wives and sons. -- 1Chr 7:1-5

... Of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do ... 1Chr 12:32

Any connection?

Interesting point that you brought up there. I really don't think there's a connection there with plural marriage though unless they were going through a social time where divorce was rampant, single mothers were left to fend for themselves, and women outnumbered men. Now what other period in time does that sound like?

The connection I see involves the possibility that the sort of folks who get concerned about society and families and end up at PM may well be also the sort who give realistic attention to, and arrive at realistic conclusions about the times in which we live.
