• Biblical Families is not a dating website. It is a forum to discuss issues relating to marriage and the Bible, and to offer guidance and support, not to find a wife. Click here for more information.

Let's have some fun with "In the Beginning it was not so..."

(Adding to the further derailment of the thread...)

Genesis 2:24 (KJV)
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

The father gives away his daughter.
Leave and cleave to your new family.
It’s not about gaining another set of parents, but it should be about gaining friends. Too many remain too connected to past families to the detriment of the newly created family.

Yeah, I know. Getting way off here.
But I was forced, forced I tell you, to add this hopefully thought provoking comment.

Peace ;)

I’ve had similar musings recently. I’m considering how close that “friendship” really should be...

Definitely thought provoking. I found myself agreeing with you. Then disagreeing with you, then agreeing.....

In the end, I’m just gonna think about it.

And to further derail this thread, that conclusion can not be made from that passage.
I did not mean for that to look like it was derived from that verse. It only talks about the male leaving his parents.
I can see that I should have put And also the father gives away, referring to a modern marriage.
Just showing that the marriage isn’t a combining of families, they both leave their family of birth and make or expand the new one.
