Love Triangles and Literature

In the "Love Triangles and Polygamy" thread we are discussing there very common theme of Love Triangles and how often we think, "It is too bad they do not consider polygamy as a solution".

I thought it would be interesting to review some of the great love triangles here. So if you know of any and would like to discuss them please post here. It does not strictly have to be literature. Really any media, like movies, etc. is also fair game, although the movie "Pearl Harbor" is out because we do not support polyandry here. ;)

The two I immediately think of are "Doctor Zhivago" by Boris Pasternak and "Age of Innocence" by Edith Wharton. Both are also great movies, too, if you do not want to read the book.

The current situation with the amazon owner and all of Trump's marriage failures. If only they would have known about PM. Imagine the money saved and how the world would see a correct family structure that was prominent in the world.

Everything that you said is absolutely true, but the Amazon owner may be headed for a court situation that would strip him of his property.
He may have just saved half of it with this little trick.

Good point.

Had Trump embraced poly a lot of heartache would have been spared; and he could have pulled it off too.

But Bezos is too much of a hopeless case to even consider poly. From the released text messages it looks like he went all 6th grade pupply love gaga over her. Of course, the object of his obsession is already married so it's not a case that qualifies for poly.

Come on @rockfox, don't we all have a little 6th grader living inside all of us? What fun is it if we are totally adult serious all the time? :D

You don't whisper sweet nothings to your honey????:)

I do and we all do, I hope. But it is about frame. If you find yourself saying, "I couldn't live another day without you." you've lost the plot. Well, I don't recall he said that specifically, but that was the same general tenor of his texts.

Got it. That is a bit overboard.

Very interesting. Didn't know.

He, his wife and his secretary were in what we would call a plural marriage for decades until his wife died. I don't remember all of the details now but it should be pretty easy to look up.

After his wife finished raising their children she wanted to enjoy the good life with travel and persue a singing career, but her husband is famous for wanting to stay at home in Omaha. So she recruited her friend to be the stay at home wife while she enjoyed the kind of life she wanted. They used to send Christimas cards from "Warren, Susie and Astrid". When his first wife died he legally married his second wife.

It just occured to me that all three of the Bronte sister's novels were kind of love triangles, but Jane Eyre was the only one that polygyny might have helped.
