Manipulation of YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook

I watched three videos on YouTube recently, posted by Smarter Every Day, and think they are worth watching if you are concerned about the manipulation of ideas and beliefs by the enemy.

Here's the links.

This is some really excellent videos explaining the prominent social media platforms. Well worth the time spent to understand how they work, or at least try and understand what it takes to defend against those who use them for non good reasons. I don't have a Facebook or Twitter or YouTube account but I do read and use the material on there a good bit. Thanks for posting this.

Had to get past the infomercial aspect but still worth it.

His term of 'political grace' is a trap that really hides it's true meaning of political tolerance and eventually will become harmful to Christian thought. But then again, I am not at all sure how social media is place Christian views will be tolerated much longer anyway.

Come out of her my people, is what I hear.

The scale of both the attempts to manipulate people's thinking on these platforms and the work done to oppose it is huge; it's incredible. It is way beyond anything I'd ever imagined. When you consider that, you begin to realize how serious this is.

I agree. I had no idea until I saw those videos. It was amazing that those companies made the effort to put this information out there. Seems to relay that this is a big problem and for future societies sake they better get a handle on it.

My fear is that once AI gets really going there will be no way of knowing the truth. Soon you'll have to treat the internet like the tabloid magazines we use to see at grocery store check out counters years ago. Stories were fascinating but could never believe a word of it.

He just completely glossed over the fact that Twitter itself is the biggest manipulator. Censorship, forced trending, shadow bans, etc are a huge problem. The left blamed unfettered use of social media by the right on Trump getting elected and they've been going after conservatives ever since. Real people. Not bots. Well they censored before as well but after that loss they were determined to never let it happen again. He's trying to paint bans of real people as innocent crossfire. Total BS. It's a propaganda campaign against the right by the Google/Twitter/et al full stop.

Twitter is a social media platform designed and regulated by real people, as are YouTube and Facebook. There's a battle going on for the minds of the people and it's huuuge, bigger than anything most could imagine.
The point in posting these links is raising the awareness of everyone here about how certain groups or governments are using these platforms to their own ends and that includes how polygyny is perceived by the masses. Polygyny is biblical and consistent with the nature and character of Almighty God so think about how this has been attacked and manipulated. Destin makes a good point in the Facebook video about how people can be manipulated to become pitted against one another. All this is well worth keeping in mind as we can lose sight of where the battle lines are and who the real enemy is.

One of the things I took away from watching them is that it's important to pay attention to how information effects us against each other. If something you see triggers emotions, there might be a hidden agenda behind it.

Yes, information affects us. Considering how fast emotions get triggered here on BF, I think we need to be reeeeaal careful. :)

I agree, there is a real enemy out there trying to pit each of us against each other. I think this Real Person tag is a really good thing to help each of us know that we are dealing with real people and think before we type.

Smoke and mirrors to deflect from the truth that the whole goal of these platforms is to do this very thing. Propoganda and manipulation is the primary function of Twitter; they just don't want competition.

That's why Twitter gave Antifa and ISIS free reign while kicking out anyone who effectively campaigned for Trump.
