Last January, T, Pastor Randy and I took on the impossible task of redecorating two bedrooms in one weekend. These were bedrooms for the grandkids and they had to be just right. The little girl, age 6 wanted Disney Princesses and the boy age 7 wanted Transformers. They had never had their own rooms before and everything had to be just perfect.
We started out Saturday morning with a shopping trip. T had already purchased a lot of stuff, like bedding and stuff, but there was so much more to do. They were getting new beds that had to be assembled. I had a dresser that would be just right in the girl's room, if only we could paint it pretty pink. They got another dresser for the boy's room for free. We cleared out the rooms and got to work.
I learned something that day that I guess I hadn't ever realized. In our family, I am the handy one. Now that is scary. Anyway, I was put in charge of assembling the beds, and later Randy and I painted the first dresser. The second one I did all by myself the next week. We even got new handles for the drawers. We put up posters on the walls. Each child had a cool hamper, a matching garbage can and even a little set of steps to put toys in and to help them climb into those really tall beds. They each got a special lamp and cute little table to play at and do homework at.
Altogether, it took us about 24 hours to do everything (not including sleep time that night). Of course that last dresser wasn't done for a few days, but the majority of it was beautiful. And the fact that we were all working together made it fun and the time just flew by.
This is one example of how families work together to bless each other and others.
It is the simple things that make life fun.
