I agree this is helpful even if fictitious.

But Pebble, what makes you think Jesus' parables are fiction? All describe entirely plausible real world events. They may well be true accounts that Jesus simply applied deeper meanings to.

Not fiction, sir. Stories can be based on real life too.

Same with that hobo pastor story. Even if that particular event didn't actually happen, there must several real-life versions of it. It illustrates or drives home a point.

Depends on the reader though. For me it is humbling, for others it's just another story. Same with Jesus's parables. :)

Well the snopes article even gives some very similar real life examples. I thought the one with the pastor who starts his sermon looking homeless and finishes with his normal appearance was pretty powerful in particular. And the Mormon bishop.
