Offgrid homestead

It will change some yes, as the cell tower topography will change. But 5G requires even more towers. Places that don't have towers now don't because it wasn't economical to put them in. This will likely be all the more true with 5G. Although I've not studies the 5G issue in depth.
The economics are not entirely based on consumer demand unfortunately. There is a strong incentive to get complete coverage in order to allow mass surveillance. Also, agricultural equipment is increasingly using cellular connectivity giving industrial demand in rural areas. Yes, rollout will be slower in rural areas, and the intensity of towers will always be lower, but it will still occur and the economic drivers will be different than they were to date.

This is all so sad we have to deal with this.

A lot of the places I was describing, that still won't be true. Large tracts of isolated public land where almost no one lives. Very rural areas were there isn't much farm land and the houses are miles apart.

5G will be ultimately delivered via low-orbiting satellites that will cover all such areas with blanket coverage. The goal is to ensure no gaps in coverage, to allow a wide range of uses - such as letting self-driving cars use all roads. As I said, this is all changing, the old economics will become obsolete. It's not just about where people live and need to make a phone call. And it doesn't take many satellites to cover an entire country in signal.

Good point. Though I'd say its more about universal tracking and monitoring of everything. Self driving cars don't technically need cell service to function.
