Passion of The Christ

I just finished watching the Passion of the Christ and while reading the story is heart rending it can sometimes be difficult to really put yourself there and understand fully what Jesus Christ endured for us. Following is my initial reaction to this movie.

I feel awful, like I was there and did nothing to stop it. I wouldn't let anyone be treated like that without trying my hardest to stop it, but not only did we not stop it it is personally partly our fault He was crucified and forsaken, all so we could have petty arguments and get irate cause life doesn't treat us the way we think we deserve when because we were callous and cold hearted enough to cause this atrocity to anyone let alone Jesus we deserve to be turned away from by every good person or spirit and Him in our lives and yet He still cradles our hearts and our hands to Him to reassure us we aren't as bad as we think we are no matter what we do or think or feel we will be loved forever and ever till the end of existence of anything.

It is not part our individual fault. It is ALL our individual fault. The fact is we simply cannot divide the torture by the countless people it has and can save. Christ would have had to suffer and would have suffered this to save just one. The thing I find interesting is the one time it is recorded that He audibly called out is when He felt His Father turn away in shame. The pain we face from the consequences of sin and for the self restraint to not sin should be nothing for us compared to this. Being that time is not linear for God, when we sin now it is what Christ paid for then. So in a way when we choose to sin now we might as well be yelling CRUCIFY!!!!

One bit of logic that I have found useful, but I do not claim is necessarily completely accurate, is this:

All sin has a real punishment. And Jesus took the punishment for all of our sins - each individual one. As God is completely just, Jesus must have suffered the exact penalty for every single sin he was taking the punishment for, both past and future. This means that whenever you sin, you actually add the penalty for that sin to what Jesus had to suffer then - he wouldn't have had to go through that bit if you weren't going to sin.

Therefore each time you sin you really are directly hurting Jesus...

If not 100% true it's at least a positively motivating heresy.

I merely meant he died for all of our sins not just mine. I am not in any abdicating responsibility for I am a sinner and continue to sin even when I am trying really hard not to, in fact sometimes I am trying so hard not to sin in my effort and focus to refrain from participating in one particular sin I hurt others and so I sin.

Just so as I reply people might get to know me, I am NEVER calling someone wrong unless I specifically say YOU are Wrong. My response was to add to what you said and to share how I viewed it. Just an exchange of how we think.
