Re: How to resize your photo for profile

Since this site says 90 x 90 is the size limit for one's avatar (an image that appears on each post), you just need a tool that will allow you to resize your image. phixr.com is a website that will let you upload a photo, alter it in various ways, and then download the result for free; no registration required. Phixr's 'Scale' tool will do the job; just punch in "90" in the width and height blanks and you'll be good to go!

Pixels can mean a few different things, but basically in this case when you blow up a digital image and everything is made of little squares, the number of squares that you can count across the image is its "pixel width". Same for the height in pixels.

The more pixels, the more storage space taken up by the image file. If you use a tool to lower the pixel count, it throws away some of the image's detail in exchange for a smaller file size. A page with smaller images also loads more quickly in people's browsers, since each of those little files takes less time to send through the intertubes. :)

Re: How to resize your photo for profile

Well done! I still don't exist, and I've been here for years! :D

Re: How to resize your photo for profile

I'm one step ahead of the game. I exist but I'm an icon of a Bible because I don't want anybody's computer screen to break from having display a mug like mine.

Thank you for the encouragement lol

Thank you for your kind words. I will say this was a hugggggge step for me. Big step. I have been afraid for years to come out openly for plural marriage. Have been afraid to say how i felt or what i thought for fear of retribution from my church and friends. But i turned a corner this past month. I have slowly made my way out of "that church" and more into a global mindset about God and the bigger picture. It can be really hard to see the forest when you worried about planting each sapling and scrutinizing the details. Even harder when your "friends" at church and elders are telling you to never talk about or believe in something you have strong feelings about (poly). So i decided to come clean and post a pic. Hope i dont scare too many off. ;)

Re: How to resize your photo for profile

I remember it was just as big a deal for me back when I decided to put my first name in my signature. Back then I was concerned what would happen if the church etc figured out who we were. But now we've already been kicked out of that church over thinking this way, and family already know we're nuts... I may as well exist too! So here's my new picture also.

And you won't scare anyone off with that photo. Seriously, good on you, that does take guts, particularly for a single woman.

Re: How to resize your photo for profile

Thanks for sharing your photos, Starlit and Samuel.

And of course prior thanks to Untold Glory who resolutely surveys the scene.

Re: How to resize your photo for profile

I must admit that I chucked your photo into a Google Image search Starlit to assess how much sharing an image would take me out of stealth mode. When it matched your image with completely random people including Kim Jong-Un (seriously, try it yourself), I decided that adding an image was adding little risk! My image just gets matched with a load of miscellaneous bearded faces. For me, most people who know me would quickly draw the dots between Samuel from New Zealand and who I am anyway, this will just confirm it faster.

Edit: Just realised that you could be offended by me saying Google thinks you look like Kim Jong-un. It just means Google is stupid. You get matched to everyone from Kim to a good-looking 16-year-old, and everyone in between. Seriously, every possible type of person in society...
UntoldGlory gets matched with a bunch of leather-wearing bikers simply because he has a black shirt.
This is fun!

Re: How to resize your photo for profile

I never thought of being in "stealth" mode before. Lol. I had to laugh at you ylop.

Samuel, that is interesting who google matched me up with. Hopefully im not on some crazy terroist list. LOL.

Interesting enough Samuel i have just left my church. I also decided with my new found freedom that i would reveal my identity. Im still private about certain details...but a picture is a start...and good enough until i ever decide to reveal more to someone later. Its just refreshing to live without fear that someone will find me online and excommunicate me for my beliefs. There is so much more i could say about my church but i wont dwell on it. As a friend on here told me once about people..."dont give them space in your head". Im trying to do that.

Re: Resizing photos for profiles or revealing your identity

Hmmm, from that picture I can tell that one room in your house is painted WHITE, at some point in the last decade you bought a PURPLE TOP, and the webcam on your computer is HIGHER THAN YOUR HEAD - the pieces are all falling into place now, I'll soon figure out who you are... :D

The most effective way to get rid of the fear of excommunication is to be excommunicated! We were kicked out of ours just a few months ago. Frustrating at the time but a major blessing, it means I can now be focussed on working directly for God rather than having time taken up with church leadership meetings etc. And it forced me to focus back on what the Church really is - all believers who accept Christ, not a group of people meeting in a building once a week.

Re: Resizing photos for profiles or revealing your identity

Well on that phixer site Mystic sent me to i was able to remove some other tidbits of info...like my shower curtain and shelving. I.E....i was in my bathroom taking my photo. Lol. Not a webcam. But a cell phone. It was the room with the best lighting for a photo.

Btw Samuel...it almost sounds like we had left the same church? Meetings, callings, expectations, baptisms, potlucks, etc. Plenty of stuff to keep members busy so they dont realize whats really going on at church...they are being kept from the truth. Just my opinion though.

Re: Resizing photos for profiles or revealing your identity

Starlit your picture isn't showing up beside your name. Did you remove it ?

Re: Resizing photos for profiles or revealing your identity

Jack, yes, starlit removed her pic. (Well actually I hacked her account and did it myself just for kicks but I wasn't going to tell anyone. j/k.) Sometimes she takes a break from participating and I think this is one of those times.

One reason I don't comment on avatars or signatures is that they can always be changed or removed and then the comments wouldn't make as much sense. Life in the big web, eh?

Re: Resizing photos for profiles or revealing your identity

I don't see any pictures. Thanks for posting this though starlit. I ran into the same problem when I decided to come out of the closet and didn't think to ask anyone how to fix it.
