She's dead.

My friend, a woman who had longed to get married all her life, was once given a word of comfort from the Church.

She was told that the reason she was still single, well into her fifties, was because her future husband's current wife hadn't died yet.

Cold comfort for a woman who has now passed.

Sometimes I really dislike the Church. There are days it borders on hate. I try to keep that in check. This is a day I have to try a little harder than usual.

Sad.

Traditions of men that override the instructions of God. And they wonder why the church is powerless.

Wow that is sad!

So sad. This reminds me of terrible memes by some popular Christian singles Facebook pages. Same message pushing monogamy only as if they are getting their orders from God. It's really just blasphemy plain and simple. I would be emboldened to use this as an opportunity to correct some brothers and sisters....in love of course......

Not in that place right now, but it is a reasonable idea. Thanks.

The god of this world the god of the catholic church

Very sorry for your loss, Jacob. And I hear you: the desire to please the ways of the world generally leads people to be callous about the lack of intimate companionship in the lives of others.

Wow. Why would anyone say something like this?

I understand your feelings. On the other hand, I am always careful about saying bad things about the church (however deserving it may be), because that is like speaking ill of someone's wife, and she has a powerful defender.

Well said.

I am not against the Bride of Messiah. I just know we can be better than this.

Are the churches really The Church?
Or is The Church scattered amongst the visible churches and beyond?

Good point, Steve. The Church isthe Body of Christ, of which we are all members. Conceiving of the Church as a building or an organized restrictive club has always been a mistake, based on a purposeful mistranslation of ekklesia. My interpretation of @jacobhaivri's original post was that he was angry with the organized religion aspect of Christianity, not that he was angry with the Body of Christ.

Where two or more are gathered in His name . . .

It's really not that much different than the standard advice always given the yearning singles...."God has a man/woman for you, it's just not time yet". But all this does is keep people from being introspective about what is preventing them from attracting a mate; from making changes in themselves or their approach.

An excellent question. You would have to have glasses more powerful than mine to be able to give an definitive answer to that one.
