We have a thread on Notre Dame, which involved no casualties, but no one's started one for the bombings (three churches, and three hotels, I think) in Sri Lanka on Easter morning that killed over 200. Pray that God would send His incomprehensible peace to our Sri Lankan brothers, and that He would use this to perfect their endurance and accomplish His will.
Over 300 dead now.
The Sri Lankan government is claiming it was a response to the Christchurch shootings. I do wonder about the logic of that a bit though. Apparently muslims have been saying the Christchurch shooter was a Christian, even though he wasn't. It's all weird. When I look at things and go "Aye?" then usually there's more behind it that I'm not aware of.

Our prayers are with our brethren who suffered this tragedy and are under attack from the "peaceful religion of Islam"
Trigger Alert. This is probably going to offend or upset someone.
Ive noticed in speaking with people in the real world (its possible that it's the same reason why here on the forum) that the special intrest in the Nortre Dame fire was because it was seen as an attack on European culture, people and institution. So for some Notre Dame was an outrage and in Sri Lanka it's not so much an outrage since it's not with those they can identify with. It's a type of persecution complex. People recognize the persecution of those they identify with and "join" them in being persecuted, yet ignore the persecution of others they don't identify with because it doesn't validate their own persecution. It's hard for some to recognize that Even though they are persecuted, so are others. Even in the case of Christians being persecuted, which I think is a good thing, and we recognize that we share the same faith with those being persecuted we miss the mark. The true persecution isn't us beleivers but of Yeshua. We're the target because of our Faith in Him. The real attack isn't against Christianity but against the One true God Himself.
Polititians condemning the attack are now starting to shy away from even using the term "Christian" to describe the victims. Apparently, "Easter worshipper" is the new PC phrase. I'm not sure what that's even supposed to mean (is it meant to be inclusive of non-christians who celebrate the resurrection, or exclusive of resurrection-denying "christians"? Neither makes sense), but I have a feeling you'll see this phrase start to pop up more and more in the future. Anything to avoid the name of Christ.
This one is just to big. I think people are starting to wake up to the fact that this is just going to be a war and the wearies them. I'm not sure that most of them are just resigning themselves to their eventual capitulation and conversion.
This attack really gives the lie to the Jihadis though. In an 85% polytheist country they attacked the monotheistic minority. Obviously I'm not saying I want them to have attacked the Buddhists and Hindus but their "book" is pretty clear about who their enemies are supposed to be. It's time to get strong and to get serious or our children are going to have a hard time of it.
I've been under a rock for 3 or 4 days. Just now hearing about this and have no idea how this is playing out in public or the media.
But don't underestimate symbolism. The attack on Notre Dame was full of symbolism and visual symbolism. It symbolized not just Western Christianity but Western Civilization and the heart of a country who has been our longest ally. The visual nature of it lent itself to easy propagation and understanding and the symbolism made if feel like an attack on us all. There had been many other church burnings before that which we'd not heard 1 word of, but the power of the symbol of that one place resonated deeply.
For example, who has even heard of Sri Lanka? That was a country never named in my government schooling. Nor did they teach us anything about architecture and next to nothing about Christian history. But they did teach us about the Notre Dame Cathedral. And of the history of our interactions with the French.
This is probably the first time you've heard of an attack there but Islamic terror attacks there go way way back. There have been quite a few over time.
"Easter worshiper"? How old school.
An attack of this magnitude doesn't sound like something that could have been planned and executed within a month to respond to the NZ attack. Unless of course you already had the capability and were looking or a reason to use it. Islam is the only religion that, in its core beliefs, spreads by the sword. By violence. We're going to have to be willing to fight back at some point.
Buddhists and Hindus in SE Asia are not afraid to use violence against their opponents. Christians are the only soft target.
