The 15-Minute City by the WEF

Are we going to be confined to a city ghetto?

Katie Hopkins, an English media personality, talks about a plan which is unfolding in Oxford, England where the “15-minute city” will be enacted, all in the name of climate change. It involves the city being carved up into six sections with its residents being confined to their particular section.

If being confined to a glorified house arrest which generously allots you the luxury of a 15-minute radius, then that’s all you’ll need. Who are we to think we know better than the WEF who believes it's time to restrict freedom of movement and all other freedoms as well?

No regulation are needed.
If no regulations are needed, why will the authorities give passes so 100 times per year you would be allowed to enter a zone which is not yours? Why will fines will be given in order to prevent the passage into someone else’s zone once you’ve used up your allotted amount?

This is dictatorial control on a mammoth scale.

My first paragraf is about what is good in good city and how cities have organically developed. I have lived in 3 European cities and practically everything needed can be purchased in 15 minute walk from my residence. If you work in your neighboor or work from home there is no reason to leave neighboorhood for weeks. Everything is there. This wasn't planned. This pattern shows itself repeatetly in history.

This is good part and changes in this direction are good.

But off course, WEF guys won't repeal zoning regulation to enable cities's organical development. No, they are control maniacs who make good ideas dystopian.

EDIT: Clarity

And just like the USSR people will need internal passports and approval from apparatchiks to travel outside of their virtual prisons.

And now's a good time to post this again:

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

― Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn , The Gulag Archipelago 1918–1956

Remind me why a city council thinks it has this sort of authority.

Because they gave themselves right.

And because this is fruit of Englightment. Highest value is reason. It should mean that best argument wins, but in practice winner is one with biggest gun. Problem is when 2 people disagree how to decide who has best argument. There is no way except by pure might.

No offense, but we’ve pulled Europe’s ass out of fire too many times for us to be taking any civics advice from them.

Civics is about citizens - government relationship.

This is about how cities function: in social sense, economic sense and cultural sense. About what is needed for human flourishing.

Who has decided to leave millenium old tradition of city building? Americans. What are American cities? Can't go anywhere without car. What else? Ponzi scheme.

It you who needs to return to tradition and good old proper way in this case.

High population density leads to unhealthy group think, which leads to millions of people suffering and dying... and then us country bumpkins have to bring our guns over there to shoot a bunch of a$$holes that you guys should’ve shot. Why don’t you guys take a page from our play book? Arm up, spread out, and tell the tyrants to shove their tyranny where the sun don’t shine.

Your lower density didn't save you from scrounge of wokism and transgenderism.

You didn't have to join european affairs. Please, stop believing British spies who need you to save their sorry asses (WW1/WW2).

We Europeans never had this travesty:

Using city center where most event are supposed to happen for parking.
We've also never had bubonic plague...
Plague couldn't arrive to you. Translantic trade didn't exist them.

I was in Europe a few times and I saw wokism rising there long before that cancer caught on here. I had European friends who cut off our friendship years ago because I wasn’t woke enough. The word wasn’t used yet back then but it was the same thing. Wokism here only thrives in high population centers, most of the country isn’t “woke”.

Trust me, I wish we hadn’t gone over there. And I wish we weren’t now... none of our business. I’m a noninterventionist. Ya’ll can sink or swim on your own, just like we will have to.
Meh... I’ll take a city center as a parking lot over the slaughter of millions of people any day. And don’t tell me that didn’t happen, my grandfather saw the aftermath with his own eyes.

The point is, I don’t care how you guys do things. Do whatever you want, but if Europe’s ways are the “right way”, I’d rather do things the wrong way... just sayin’.

Real problem is that American cities are financialy broken, they are just not aware of it. Cities aren't solvent.

Is somebody bothered to read deeper Strong Towns articles you would know reason. City's infrastructure costs (water, roads...) scales with territory. So it 1k people gets spread out on 4X land as before infrastructure cost will go up 4X. Since cities income didn't go up 4X there is a problem.

It is American pattern of city development after WW2 which created this problem and hides it's presence.

You sure do talk about America a lot. Why? Have you ever been here? If so how much time did you spend here? How many Americans have you met in real life? How much time did you spend with them?

What’s your absolute fascination with us? And how do you end up getting so much bad information if you are so interested?
