The Biblical Definition of Sin

Paul not the apostle

In most of the debates or talks that I have with others about polygyny, the topic of defining what sin is and what sin is not always comes up. I am starting my own study, but if there is a thread out there or any input, then I would appreciate it.

"Sin is transgression of the law"?

By either of these definitions, it's pretty hard to condemn PM, unless one argues that Webster's defines the Biblical terms, rather than the Bible itself through further study.

I think it would be appropriate to add one more definition, this one relating to what sin is NOT!

"Ye do error, teaching as doctrines the traditions of men."

Websters isnt bad,

Sin
1. transgression of divine law: the sin of Adam.

Pretty good for a first definition, their example is especially good as it isn't just transgressing the Law (of Mosses) but divine law period, it goes beyond the law of Mosses.

But I think it is important too point out that sin is certainly not deviating from the traditions of men.

Here is the one I use...

Romans 14b -

for whatever is not from faith is sin
The Holy Bible, New King James Version, (Nashville, Tennessee: Thomas Nelson, Inc.) 1982.

But then one must truly understand faith.

Be blessed,

Cecil and others are correct.

Plain and simple.

SIn is the violation of Torah. So we as Israelite disciples of Messiah must strive not to sin and guard and honor as many of the eternal instructions as possible knowing Torah does NOT mean law, rather it means the Father's loving instructions, from where my I add we get His instructions regarding the "dos and donts" of patriarchal marriage.

We also need to remember Isiah 58 and other places, where as patriarchs we are CALLED to be fed with the full heritage of Jacob our father, meaning celebrating the only biblical Sabbath and the annual feasts of the Father.
