The Secret Powers of Time

I want a refund; this is mislabeled. He did not teach any secret powers to controling time. :(

More seriously, I remember C. S. Lewis addressing this concept in the Screwtape Letters. One way Screwtape was told to tempt Christians was to get them to stop living in the present moment by focusing on the unchangeable past or the unknowable future.

Interesting, though, how this ties it to culture, religion, geography, and climate. When he got to Sicilians being "lazy", I was reminded of:

Titus 1:12. One of them, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, and idle gluttons."

Thanks for sharing, Andrew.

He really brings it home in the last few seconds but it's easy to miss: The people you are trying to understand (another way of saying "what's involved in any problem you're trying to solve that involves other people") look at time differently — what it's worth, how fast it moves, whether it's worth paying attention to, where our lives fit in relation to it, and so on — and so you can more effectively seek solutions to a problem by asking, "What is the time-perception element here?"

I always appreciate stuff like this. It helps me consider how other people are thinking. If you don't take the time to consider othe people's thought lives your chances of really connecting with someone are slim.
