under authority

So what do you guys think of this.

My wife suggested I visit our pastor (we hadn't been to church forever, but still consider him our pastor) about all these things, marriage, etc.

I prayed about it, this was a month or so ago, & decided to go see him.

Background on the pastor. In 1995, he came & told me 3 very serious situations I was going to get into, & eventually, I did. He does hear from God.

So, getting back to current, should I walk in & tell him something he dont know about yet, plural marriage, Is4, etc? No, it would probably work out as well as me telling Brenda. It could leave a place where the enemy could wedge himself between us, & not to sound lofty, unless the Holy Spirit leads me directly, I dont want to be the person that shoves a piece of meat in his throat. This is a guy that came to a small staunch town in the 1970's preaching Holy Spirit Baptism, & was considered a cult leader for a while, he will understand whats happening when the time is right, this is my opinion of course.

So I go to pastor, I say, listen, I'm back with God. I see things that could seperate you & me, stuff I dont want to talk about right now, stuff that otherwise isnt a point of salvation. I want to put myself under your spiritual authority, just in case im getting a few things crossed up. He understood & agreed, we prayed. Matter of fact, as he prayed, he said a few things about where God was leading me that probably made no sence to him, but I knew it was God speaking.

We have been together for prayer since then, same results.

I compare this change, or return to proper order in family & marriage to sometimes include plural marriage much as the asuza street revivals. It started in Wales around the turn of 1900. 1915 or so the Holy Spirit was pouring out in California & a couple other places IIRC around the US on a smaller scale. It was pretty much devil activity to most of the Church goers, & just another crazy religious cult to the world. Now 100 years later, its still explained away by most of the church & the world dont really care, BUT, its been around enough to stand the test of time. If people find Jesus, either in the church or from the gutter, it comes to mind, "I want that power".

I guess Im seeing this period (funny, chritian polygyny started about 10 years ago i think) as more of a "test market", or the 2nd phase, kind of like the modern outpouring of the Spirit. these are my thougts, not divine insperation!!

first you need to study what the bible says about who your spiritual headship is, i think that this is the groundwork for patriarchy

i have been following you in the whole struggle and i am definetly cheering you on, just remember that these things take time. it took 3 years (i did not push her. she has a degree in theology) before my wife felt that she could get behind it and we lost a lot of friends because of it.

rome wasnt built in a day, bro. i am not saying to wimp out, just be in prayer about how hard to push.

and then there is always Yeshua's example in telling his followers that they were going to have to eat his flesh and drink his blood in order to have any part of him. shucks, why not just chase them away with a club  ? there are times to draw those under your authority towards the truth, and times to stand on His Word and command that rightiousness be done. doing it right makes for a good patriarch, it is easy to just be a dictator.

may the Lord lead you in ballance, still wobbly myself

hey, Weeble Patriarchy Weebles wobble but they dont fall down

Weeble Patriarchy -- I LOVE it!

Describes me to a Tee! No matter how far we get knocked over, even to bumping the poor noggin but good, we keep popping back up with that silly smile still on our faces.

Weeble Patriarchs it is!

John,

I say this...

You are hearing from God. Do what He says and nothing more or less and you will be fine. If God is telling you to come under your pastor, then do it. Otherwise, Jesus has you covered. If your pastor does not understand Christian polygyny, then maybe God is trying to take you somewhere other than where this man can lead you. You do not need an improper covering, that would be the enemy. I often get criticized for not having a human covering, but this is just human wisdom at its finest and we all know where that comes from.

Be blessed,

Ray

Dr, thanks for replying & you got the jist of what i was at

yes, i felt God leading me to ask pastor to cover me, & i also submitted myself to God for guidience from the pastor, i know the pastor hears from God, why would i want to tell pastor something that his "man" isnt ready to admit because of traditions sake, God will show him truth when it is relevant for him

I do believe thats one of my jobs, to help pastor through this when it comes up

hey, here is a funny, pastor & i were praying the other morning, i was preaching to him, ya know, sharing a revelation or 2, & tonya called me monday & said "man, pastor sounded like you sunday, saying this & that....hehheheheh, he stole my sermon, or at least God inspired him thru me

drray, good perspective on the balance

Oh, well I just posted a link to one of these books under another thread - but it seems appropriate here. I'll add another to it that I think will bless you.

1. "Under Cover" by John Bevere http://www.amazon.com/Under-Cover-Promi ... 0785269916
This is a great book on how we respond to authority. Guys, we are supposed to lead in this.

2. "What Jesus Demands From the World" by John Piper http://www.amazon.com/What-Jesus-Demand ... 1581348452
My wife and I have enjoyed reading these chapters together as a morning devotion-time. Jesus has a way of speaking that cuts into the core of our character, doesn't he? Love this book!
