What is 'discernment'?

This came up today in fellowship and it's why I'm here on a Sunday.

I heard a number of responses to this question and for myself 'discernment' means making sure that what I see and what I know align.

I am most interested in other thoughts on this question.

It's a broad word, because it could mean to "discern" anything. But when I use it in a Christian context, it means to me "understanding how God sees a situation". Going beyond what I see and I know.

It would say it means to understand where signal in noise is, being able to understand what truly matters.

I was really asking more for what 'discernment' means to other people, not just the textbook definition.
