Athletica?

Bingo

I read the article.:(Thanks for ruining Jijutsu for me @Mojo. Not really, for us Jijutsu serves the purpose of teaching a way for my family to defend each other. I have seen some parents and students ,of all ages, who fit seamlessly into what the article calls Athletica. There has to be away to transfer that fanatical zeal for sports into a fanatical zeal for G-d.

Outside is America - lyrics to Bullet the Blue Sky - Bono. I would sing...outside is Athletica. Athletics in America is a distraction from what is really important. Only a fraction of the population make the cut. As a biblicist, athleticism is alien to Hebrew culture. The first mention of athleticism comes from Paul, "running the race". Anyways, Roll Tide!

If a family instills a zeal for sound body, mind, and soul, then bravo!

As this article points out, that ain't so in much of America.

Religion has now been replaced by athletics as the opiate of the masses.

I generally don't peddle conspiracies, but I sometimes wonder if the surfeiting of sport for adults and children isn't a master plan by the socialist/communist mafia in this country....:(

I know too many people who's entire lives revolve around "their" teams schedule for the season. Then supplement it with who ever else is playing. Then the next sports season and the next. It's the same with reality TV. Watching someone else live their life instead of living one for ourselves. It's a problem when instead of being a brief moment in life it becomes your life. It's a problem when our kids idolize sports "heros" and look to them as rolemodels. Granted there are a few who are good rolemodels but they're not the ones the media puffs up.

I'd have to disagree with this a bit due to Davids mighty men. Those dudes could perform their martial arts insanely well.

I'm pretty sure Caleb wasn't a couch potato asking Joshua for that mountain.

There was also men who were quite adept at running long distances in the OT.
