Is Porn Use good for Christians?

My wives laugh and have a dig at me as I'm officially obese now. I had to take a medical checkup for a new driver's license a few weeks back. The scrawny little assistant measured my height and weight, looks at a chart and it says that's obese, so he types Obese in the health column. I may be over 60 but I still pump weights and my arms are bigger than my little wife's legs! That's life now; you have to fit in line with the official data so I'm labelled as obese.
Obese according to BMI is a stupid metric. Body fat percentage should be the metric used. I'm still considered underweight despite putting on about 15# of muscle in the past year (yes I mean contractile tissue, dropped bf% while gaining weight). 20# to go before I'm at an ideal weight range.

Do you teach salvation from the eternal condemnation of sin to be possible only by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone, and all to the glory of God alone? That is something we teach and hold to with passion but I've never encountered that as something followers of the LDS religion teach.
I've been attending a LDS church for awhile and we were always taught this. Curious what other teachings your referring to specifically?

The Mormon missionaries told me, among other things, water baptism was required for salvation. When we discussed who Jesus is, the Jesus they spoke was not the eternal creator who made all, so is different from the Jesus we read of in the Bible.

Col. 1:16, For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

Oh ok I haven't really been taught that at my church, wonder if it's common? This is the first LDS church I've ever attended. The issue I've ran into more often is the focus on Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. I've felt like my church is lacking in Bible study.

Yes, same for me. The LDS people I've got to know don't focus on Bible study and will believe the writings of their leaders over what is written in the Bible.

There's a good chance you've been hearing sermons that are on light and fluffy surface details but not actually discussing the theology underlying it, so you don't actually know what they really believe. Like most churches. :)

Possibly but I also speak with the missionaries and Elders, and ask many questions. Y'all know how I am with my questions lol.

I know most churches (even the LDS) have taken a more "modern" or general approach for the lack of a better terms just to keep people interested in attending and to seem more accepting.

I wish @Wanlorn would give us some insight possibly on what Fredrick was asking?

I was raised in it, and my parents went to know your religion seminars way back when, and had/have a set of the journals of discourses. This is a printed record of the transcribed sermons from Joseph Smith and Brigham Young....and other early church presidents. They believe that the modern current prophet speaks for God, even if he changes or (appears to) contradicts what previous prophets said or taught. What is called the manifesto was when the church agreed to no longer practice polygamy, to secure statehood for Utah. Many living "the principle" continued to live it, some down in Mexico to avoid persecution.

The lds believe they are earning a higher degree of exhaltation, which is why those in leadership in fundy groups desire multiple wives. This causes an imbalance in the world and all sorts of abuses happen.

I don't pretend to know that marriage continues beyond this life. All my reasons for wanting a sisterwife, have to do with love and support in raising a family in this life....another someone to build a life with that won't move away.

Lds lifestyle is pretty nice. They are family focused and clean living people. Many of my family are happy belonging there. We don't fight about religion, but I cannot claim the doctrine. It was very eye opening to attend a fast and testimony meeting after maybe ten years of marriage. The Sunday school lesson was about how all Mormon doctrine can be found in the Bible.....and I'll stop at saying, there is more then one way to understand what they claimed as proof texts.

Their "elders" are not biblically qualified. They are young unmarried men that are usually just referring people to tracts, videos, teaching aids and pre prepared answers.

*shrugs*

I'm going to stop now.

I don't really want to engage in theological debate.
Yes, same for me. The LDS people I've got to know don't focus on Bible study and will believe the writings of their leaders over what is written in the Bible.
I will address this comment briefly however. Like many religious people from all denominations we have cultural members, those who are born and raised in a particular dogma. They are there because that is what they are comfortable with. Every year however, the LDS mother church focuses on a book of scripture in their person study and in church classes. This year was the old testiment, 2023 will be new testiment, 2024 will be the book of Mormon, and 2025 will be the Doctrine & Covenants. Repeat every 4 years.

One of the reasons I outgrew the mainstream or mother church, is that I study more than the focused materials, I also study in depth the teachings of the early restoration prophets, Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, Wolford Woodruff, John Taylor, etc. Along with resources from other LDS alternatives such as Ogden Kraut, Gerald Peterson and many others.

Some more "programmed" Mormons believe that the man in the chair {right now that's Russel M. Nelson} and the current leadership can override older dead prophets including the Bible.

I hope this helps some, again, I'm not here to argue or debate religion, just here for the Polygyny resources.

This is a very good outline of the mainstream LDS church.

True but I've personally asked questions similar to what Fredrick was asking and I was told differently. Like others have said it could very well just be surface level. Though they've been very accepting of my questions and my own personal beliefs.
I just assumed (like most other) modern religions/churches, they are moving away from being so imposing.

This is what I was trying to say about extra points.

This is actually another difference between Christians and Mormons. Christians do not believe that human marriage lasts beyond death (Matthew 22:30).

What is left is what human marriage represents: the true marriage of Christ and the Church.
