If he's in a 'blue' (communist) state
How come in most of the world left-wing parties use the colour red, and right-wing parties use the colour blue, but in the USA it is reversed?

Sorry, not really the thread for it, but I've often wondered. It seems like deliberate confusion. If the answer is long we can take it elsewhere.

No - the answer is simple and obvious, and you're on the right track. It was done deliberately, and coordinated during one of the major presidential elections a decade or more back (I could look it up, but don't recall the year).

It was done deliberately by the major TV networks, in their election night spin/coverage, and their "public-private parters," to obscure the fact that the Leftist party should be the color red. In that same timeframe, you may recall, they decided not to call themselves 'socialists', much less communists, any more, or even "liberals," and go with "progressive."

Do they get called left and right in other countries?

Yes. The terms "left" and "right" come from the French revolution, and refer to the sides of the house the revolutionaries and conservatives happened to sit on in their early parliament. They're universal terms, progressives are always "left" and conservatives always "right".

What changes is what policies are considered "progressive" and "conservative", the conservatives of each generation basically fight to retain whatever the progressives two generations before fought for and has established as normal when today's conservatives were children. Progressives want new changes, and conservatives want to preserve the previous changes. So the conservatives in the 19th century supported autocratic rule by the elite (monarchy) while the progressives supported democracy - but today's conservatives support democracy because they got used to that being normal, while the progressives want a new autocracy of the elite. And round and round we go.
