Their failure was in not reading the whole of Scripture.

Yes, I think after enough dubious calls like this, as well as other mystical elements (likely from the female influence) the SDA folks at large started cleaning up their act and focused more on solid doctrines. Not that it’s completely authoritative, but Walter Martin left the SDA church out of his kingdom of the cults while others felt it should be in.
