To back up CS Lewis's description of Knox as "the wittiest man in Europe", it turns out that Knox was the author of the first ever radio hoax, in Britain in 1926, that caused all sorts of panic! An event that was very similar to the later 1938 War of the Worlds hoax that caused panic in the USA, and probably inspired it.
