Coming to a church near you?

But what I was already working on posting is below....busy day here with many interruptions.

Hubby found this, and said I could share it with the group. I was gonna start a new thread, but it is kinda related to this subject, so here is yet another facet of this modern mess, complete with references to polygyny, monogamy and the ultimate result of each.
I've seen that video at least twice before, and just watched it a third time on the way home now. Some good stuff in there. I'm subscribed to BPS's channel, and he often does good thought-provoking stuff. (std disclaimer about not believing everything he says, yada yada...)

I did notice one logical inconsistency with regards to his handling of polygamy. Several times he talks about monogamy being the ideal for building civilization (due to its sexual equity for men, in a way that's strongly reminiscent of our "socialist marital regulation" thread). He then proceeds to show how declining monogamy and sexual standards in the west is leading to a decline in civilization. Finally, he compares that with a rapidly growing culture that is still "hypermasculine" and that keeps its women chaste -- namely, Islam. What goes conspicuously unmentioned is that Islam is also polygynous, which seems to undermine his original premise.

The power of suggestion... I totally heard @Shibboleth 's last paragraph in BPS's voice.

I'm not surprised at the underage and "objectifying" thing. That's just way too much in the news and some folks are eager to be vigilant. It's overkill, but I can see some Christians wanting to be seen "above reproach".

The biggest thing that got me scratching my head was how appalled these women seem to be at his suggestion that CHRISTIAN women try to stay with their husbands and seek separation (if need be) with counseling, but not divorce! That's biblical.

The letter quotes given kept talking about biblical views....what biblical views are they proposing? It would seem o me that being biblical would include scripture. Now, I have not read the actual letter, but I am curious as to which portions of the bible they are saying he violated.

"You are entitled to your own opinions...but not your own facts."

The SBC had a conservative takeover 40 years ago. It looks like the libs have reloaded and are aiming to storm the beaches.

Less storming the beach as a long slow decent into hell and people are noticing the sulfur too late. It's more of a big tent Baptist now; very worldly. The conservative, traditionalist baptists are found amount a few minor conventions and the independent fundies.

Good catch.
Conservative compared to what they were becoming, and compared to the main line folks.

There are still very many conservative congregations, but indeed, the big tent always has to lean towards perdition.

I think that is accurate. There is a generational problem with tends to ever push groups to the left and to decline.

That's what was so interesting about their reform (I say they because I am not, nor ever have been, SBC). The fundamentalist movement of the early 20th century did reform some groups, but it often spawned new groups. The SBC reform was within a whole, large group.

Let's see where this leads.
