I would encourage the reader to ponder the details of this family, and consider for themselves what the red flags are that indicated problems. We can learn as much from failures in life as we can from successes, which makes this a valuable story to remain up here.
For instance, consider:
- Who was the spiritual leader of the family?
- Who made the decisions?
- Who raised and promoted the idea of polygamy?
- What was their motivation, why did they want to bring this particular extra member into the family?
- Who had to work to hold the family together when things were difficult?
- How did the husband's role and attitude line up with scriptural advice for husbands?
etc. Plenty of food for thought here, that's just to get you started if you're struggling.
