Great/inspirational quotes

"The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us." C.S. Lewis
Maybe old C. S. wasn’t the best theologian.

Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

- H. L. Mencken

I add this here because it says that a man worthy of being called a man should have in him the fortitude of spirit to stand up and defy that which is wrong regardless of the cost.

Samson picked up the jawbone of a donkey and slaughtered ten thousand Philistines. It is this kind of man that I like to think Mencken was speaking of.

1 Cor. 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Eph. 2:4-7 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

v:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

I think his understanding of salvation being grounded in God's saving and sanctifying love is sound. If sinners were not saved and sanctified none could accomplish anything eternally good. Shalom

There is no question that we were sanctified, but going forward we are only good until we are not good. And only repentance makes us good again.

And empowered by the Spirit through the Word He makes us good. It wouldn't happen apart from Him.
We can play word games and Scriptures all day long, but the overall state of Christianity has to be an embarrassment to Him.
He can’t make us good if we are not doing the hard part (denying ourselves).

But it is God who works in you both to will (or have the desire) and to do His good pleasure.

When it isn't "embarrasing"?

In whole Israel history they were more time embrassing than not.
That justifies this culture?

No. This is the difference between those who believe and understand the absolute sovereignty of God over all, compared to those who deny His absolute sovereignty over all. The One who is the Eternal, all-powerful God, He is God and He does whatever He pleases. He changes sinners and makes them saints, conforming them to the image of His Son. So, if it ain't happening they ain't His, but that doesn't change the fact.
