Maybe old C. S. wasn’t the best theologian."The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us." C.S. Lewis
That's great! I think we could fill an entire thread with stupid quotes, and half of them would come from this clown!
No thank you. That's great! I think we could fill an entire thread with stupid quotes, and half of them would come from this clown!
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

1 Cor. 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.Maybe old C. S. wasn’t the best theologian.
There is no question that we were sanctified, but going forward we are only good until we are not good. And only repentance makes us good again.1 Cor. 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
Eph. 2:4-7 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
v:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
I think his understanding of salvation being grounded in God's saving and sanctifying love is sound. If sinners were not saved and sanctified none could accomplish anything eternally good. Shalom
And empowered by the Spirit through the Word He makes us good. It wouldn't happen apart from Him.There is no question that we were sanctified, but going forward we are only good until we are not good. And only repentance makes us good again.
We can play word games and Scriptures all day long, but the overall state of Christianity has to be an embarrassment to Him.And empowered by the Spirit through the Word He makes us good. It wouldn't happen apart from Him.
But it is God who works in you both to will (or have the desire) and to do His good pleasure. We can play word games and Scriptures all day long, but the overall state of Christianity has to be an embarrassment to Him.
He can’t make us good if we are not doing the hard part (denying ourselves).
When it isn't "embarrasing"?We can play word games and Scriptures all day long, but the overall state of Christianity has to be an embarrassment to Him.
He can’t make us good if we are not doing the hard part (denying ourselves).
I’m pretty sure the Crucifixion was the hard part but your underlying assertion is true. It is not faith alone that brings us to end of our race.He can’t make us good if we are not doing the hard part (denying
That justifies this culture? When it isn't "embarrasing"?
In whole Israel history they were more time embrassing than not.
No. This is the difference between those who believe and understand the absolute sovereignty of God over all, compared to those who deny His absolute sovereignty over all. The One who is the Eternal, all-powerful God, He is God and He does whatever He pleases. He changes sinners and makes them saints, conforming them to the image of His Son. So, if it ain't happening they ain't His, but that doesn't change the fact.He can’t make us good if we are not doing the hard part (denying ourselves).
No. Current culture is slowly being less ChristianmThat justifies this culture?
