Great/inspirational quotes

“No man is hurt but by himself.”

Diogenes, 4th Century BC

Those who imagine polygamy to be handy cover for promiscuity are apparently off the mark. If polygamists share one quality, it is that, polygamy aside, they are extraordinarily strait-laced. Molly Ivins

“The only victory love can enjoy is the day when its offer of love is answered by the return of love. The only possible final triumph is a universe loved by God and in love with God.”

William Barclay, A Spiritual Autobiography, 1977

God allows us to feel the fragility of human love so we'll appreciate the strength of His.

I believe in Christ as I believe in the sun; not because I see it, but because I see everything By it.

True humility is not thinking less of yourself: it's thinking of yourself less.

I know now, Lord, why you have uttered no answers; you yourself are the answer.

The task of teachers is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts.

-some of my favorite quotes by C.S. Lewis

A bit Catholic, but yes, I enjoy his books and a number of his quotes have helped me.

I enjoy his stuff pretty good at least what I have read. He must have been a slow talker who never got to the point. I read a funny article about how he was so bad that Tolkien, a good friend of his, made the ents (slow talking tree dudes) from Lord of the Rings after CS.

“If I were Jesus Christ, I would save Judas.”

Victor Hugo (1802-1885)

"Christ unites himself to many. In other marriages only one person is taken, but here millions are taken. Otherwise, poor souls might cry out, "Alas! Christ has married So-and-so, but what is that to me? I am left out." No, Christ marries thousands. It is a holy and chaste polygamy. Multitudes of people do not defile this marriage bed. Any poor sinner who brings a humble, believing heart may be married to Christ."

Thomas Watson (c. 1620-1686), a Puritan preacher

“God forbid that I should limit the time of acquiring faith to the present life. In the depth of the Divine mercy there may be opportunity to win it in the future.”

Martin Luther, Letter to Hanseu Von Rechenberg, 1522

“I am so tried by the things said about God. I understand God’s patience with the wicked, but I do wonder how He can be so patient with the pious.”

George MacDonald, The Elect Lady, 1888

"God always gives us strength enough for the day. But if we insist on dragging in tomorrow’s cares and piling them on top of today's cares – our strength will not be enough for the load. God will not give additional strength - just to humor our whims of worry and distrust."

J.R. Miller (1840-1912)
