i started my journey of studying polygyny, on a serious basis, about 4-5 months ago. Before that, I had skimmed through articles from time to time. I was raised SBC and was taught plural marriage was a sin. But I always wondered as old as God is, and knowing God doesn’t change, why did he change 2,000 years ago about something He had ok with. My studies showed me God is a rock and he didn’t change. How reassuring that is. I studied Stivers, Luck, Shipley among others. I have noticed my faith getting stronger knowing God really is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

I spent 12 years in the Middle East, 3 years workingbon F-15’s in Saudi Arabia, 5 1/2 years in Iraq and 3 1/2 years in Afghanistan. While in Baghdad I was honored with leading worship at the US Embassey in Baghdad for 2 years. The military are a great bunch of guys and girls to work with.

I’m married to a great lady. Smarter than me, but don’t ever tell her I said that. I’ll never live it down. She will have her doctorate in less than two months. I’m really proud of her.

I still lead worship and I guess I always will. My wife sings with me. She can have a sweet voice or can have a little bit of a rockers voice.

I would enjoy getting to know others that have similar views. I’ve only told a few people about my belief in plural marriage. And yes, I got that look. But, I got that same look when I told them I got a job in Saudi Arabia. I just remembered, a Saudi friend told me was marrying his second wife. I asked him what happened to his first wife. He told me nothing, he was just going to marry another wife. That was my first experience knowing someone going into a plural marriage.

I'm interested in how people talk and think in cultures where polygamy is normal. Nothing had happened to his first wife, he was just going to marry another. No explaining, just stating it as a matter of fact. Great answer! Thanks for sharing it.

Glad to have you here. Hope to meet you at a retreat before long.

Shalom, Shalom. Welcome and glad to have another truth seeker here!

Re: Baghdad, you and @alit53 , @steve 's first wife, will have much to talk about. May have even crossed paths...

Welcome! Welcome! So glad to have you here. Not sure where you are at in Missouri but were not far from the SW corner and meet with other Missourians in Joplin occasionally.
I have family in Joplin and Carthage area. I was just in Springfield for the annual SBC Convention. When I get down that way again (hoping to go to Branson soon) maybe we could meet and I could buy ya some coffee? I’m from the St Louis area.

I’m looking forward to going to a retreat. At this moment, it’s 4:30 in the morning and my son in law tells me my daughter is currently 5-6 cm. I’m gonna be holding my newborn granddaughter sometime today. (Slightly bragging here) as for now, I wait.

Congrats!

Welcome!
As @Ancient Paths said, you and my wife, @alit53 may need to compare notes and see if you have crossed paths.

It’s a small world. Tell her I was in Baghdad from October 2006 through December 2009. Worked at the Washington LZ during that time. I led worship at the chapel at the embassey during January 07 thru December 08. See if any of this rings a bell to her.

Welcome Phil! I am thinking you will fit in really well with this group. Military, singing, and have read some respected authors. And you live in good proximity to quite a few families. ;) Looking forward to getting to know you and your wife. Blessings!

Yep... dates cross over, but I'll let her connect. Guessing you will really enjoy her book Ballad for Baghdad. I have. Check it out!
