Men vs Women

I think this is a recent video. I would have a hard time saying, yeah this guy has heard the Gospel and has repented and trusted in Christ for the forgiveness of his sins. It sounds more like Jesus is just a good moral teacher to him, not The Messiah, The Son of God, and Savior. At least that’s what it looks like. He sounds really confused, he sounds like the Ethiopian eunuch, he doesn’t understand. He may be really close but a christian, I’m not so sure.

I said confessing Christian. What I was going for, but was unclear about, was that he confesses Jesus. I don't know the details of his understanding of the Gospel. I think most Christians get that wrong anyway; I'm not shocked if he's got it wrong too.

I watch his video's on occasion as he has good insights but don't follow closely; just don't have time for 3 hr marathon livestreams.

"I'm a Christian because my parents were Christians and it's a hereditary disease"?

That's a pretty good summation of European Christianity from an negative perspective. It's mainly inherited. Though in Owen's case only his mother was Christian (and I have no idea what type).

Owen is a complicated person but very smart. His take on why sodomy is so evil is actually quite profound. He is a believer but doesn't mince words on what he believes regarding very controversial issues. He talks about Jews a lot and it made me really uncomfortable but unfortunately a lot he has to say is....true. Yeah, nobody wants to discuss certain things and it gets icky but maybe it needs to. Btw, he is part Jewish ethnically and has close Jewish friends. Don't rule him out as a lot of good has come out of his work. Just be patient.

The role of the comic from time immemorial has always been to talk about those things which we otherwise couldn't talk about, but needed to. Which is why the slow death of comedy has been so troubling.

In times previous they took the form of jesters, bards, and mad men. I'm reminded of a passage from The Russian's Secret...

While Orthodox church leaders praised Ivan as the “unshakeable pillar, the immovable foundation of true Christianity, the holder of the reins of the Holy Church of God which is the throne
of all bishops and priests, the sage helmsman of the ship of this world,” believers throughout Russia saw him quite simply as an incarnation of the devil.

Some who opposed Ivan and his wickedness saw their becoming yurodivi (holy fools) the only option.

The yurodivi threw off all worldly possessions (sometimes including even their clothes) and became wanderers. A few, like a man called Vasily who lived on the streets of Moscow, puzzled everyone. Were they crazy? Or were they only putting into perspective how crazy society had become?

Vasily prayed in sun or snow on the streets. He shambled in and out of shops, taking things from the rich and giving them to the poor. Without fear he walked into Ivan’s palace and told him what was wrong with Russia. One day in Lent he brought the tsar a big piece of raw meat. Ivan was shocked. “I do not eat meat in Lent,” he protested. “Then why,” Vasily asked him, “do you drink the blood of men?”

No one else could have done this and gotten by. But Ivan feared the yurodivi. He suspected they were messengers sent from God, and ordered his men to leave them alone. When Vasily died, Ivan buried him beside the exotic multicoloured church he had built on Red Square in Moscow. People began to call it “Vasily’s church” and after the Orthodox canonised him it became officially St. Vasily’s (St. Basil’s), a name it has kept till today.

When Stalin undertook his program to subdue Ukraine, one of his actions was to have all the wondering bards of the country, many of whom were blind men, gathered together for a meeting; and then shot. It was part of his pogrom to destroy the distinctive Ukrainian culture by eliminating the carriers of it's stories, and songs while also eliminating the meek who'd most be able to challenge him.

Made it 6 seconds, not into profanity.
