Our Common Values .

. . What would you say are the three to five values that most people here on the forum share in common?

Blessings,

Not accounting for random people who may join I'd say everyone

-Believes Jesus (under whichever name) is the Son of God, is personal savior and redeemer who lived and died for the remission of sins so if we follow him we will partake in the resurrection of the saints and the Kingdom of God\Kingdom of Heaven.

-Believes in one way or another that how we live expresses our faith in the previous point, so discerning right from wrong is paramount to our walk with God. Hence all the NT\OT debate ect...

-Believes that humanity is sufficiently corrupt that it will (not can, but will) pervert righteousness and call good evil and evil good on a large scale on a regular basis, so we must be careful to examine even deeply set preconceived notions of right and wrong if we want to properly discern right and wrong.

-As one extension of that we have a consensus that the monogamy only doctrine calls right action (polygamy) wrong and is thus wrong in and of itself. I expect everyone here belies that monogamy only is just as pernicious as the Catholic doctrine of celibacy of the priesthood, that it is an error that leads to specific and devastating harm to individuals and the Kingdom of Heaven.

Something like that?

Great ideas so far. I will repost the question to encourage further feedback:

What would you say are the three to five values that most people here on the forum share in common?

Blessings,

Food, Water, and Air. I value all three of those quite highly but something tells me you are looking deeper. LOL.

How about this...?

1. Yah created Man in His Image
2. Things got messed up along the way
3. Messiah was Yah in the flesh sent to fix it
4. We should listen to all He said since the beginning
5. The traditions of Men tend to radically contradict scripture

Points one through three tend to be pretty common but people tend to start arguing most around points four and five.

I'll come out of my Semi Retired Commenting status (semi because I just opened my mouth) and say that I see:

Zeal
Independence

There are some (most) that share a high regard for scripture.

Jesus (under whichever name)

:) I knew I needed that clause. Good ones Curtis. We might argue over how 4 should be applied, but I think everyone thinks everyone agrees that we should listen. Its the application that causes the trouble.

Cause and Effect: It’s like when you get a cough; the cough is not the problem, it is a symptom of the real problem.

In this particular case, Jesus is our cause. Our values are an effect, an overflow from the hart.

Luke 6:45: “The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.”

So it seems to me that we have one thing on common, and that is Christ. We (the members of this community) recognize that we have fallen short of the glory of God. Not only do we need him, but we make a conscious effort to let His will become our will. Although we do what we ought not to, and vice-versa, we also do our best… “Not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect”.

I just feel that it is important for someone who may be “driving by” this web-sight to know, it not the values we value, it’s our relationship with Jesus Christ that we value. It’s that relationship t that drives our actions and (hopefully) our thoughts too.

It’s also important for the rest of us not to take pride in our values (I struggle with this too). Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, if I boast, let me boast in the Lord!

Edward the Elder said:
1) Mutual respect
2) Zeal
3) Regard
4) Temprence
5) Truth

I like Edward's response; however, I would move Truth to number 1, and remove Temprence and replace it with Fruits of the Spirit. I don't know if the Lutherans or Catholics viewing this site would go along with total temprence. :D

Hmmm ... Maybe #1 should be "Retreats (with Bunny Bread!)"

Or perhaps ...
  • Commitment to God and His scriptures, however we understand them
  • Commitment to family, at a more intense level than normally seen, and
  • A tossup between independence and curiousity. We all wanna KNOW, and we all seem prepared to follow where perceived truth leads us despite opposition.
  • Oh, and maybe a love of stimulating and supportive fellowship!

Ok, there's my 2 cents.

Some very interesting observations here. So let me ask the question again, using the previous commentators and input from new contributors:

What three to five values do most people here on the forums have in common?

Blessings,

1. Faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Yeshua for our messianic brothers.
2. Strong commitment to scripture as our standard for creed and conduct. Even though we may approach with different exegetical processes, I believe we agree that it is the word of God and is the standard.
3. High view of marriage and strong commitment to family.
4. A strong zeal to be pleasing to our God.
5. I believe a lot of us have developed a brotherly bond regardless of our differences. Sometimes we can be like a dysfunctional family; we can pick on each other but don’t let an outsider try it. LOL.

1. Love the Lord with all your heart

2. Desire to follow the Lord no matter what the cost

3. Desire to know the whole truth of God's Word, not the vain traditions of men

4. Commitment to raising a strong, God-fearing family

5. Desire to fellowship with and encourage like-minded people

:::CHUCKLES::: I wrote that when I was half-asleep I didn't mean to list them in order of priority, just wanted to list five things that came to mind about this place. Whoever said HONESTY came up with a very good one. I'm a member of many forums and right or wrong I can't say I've been to one where HONESTY has prevailed so much as this one. At least here, people are generally very honest. I respect that. I also think that there is a difference between temprence and tolerance. But I am not Lutheran though I studied religion @ Concordia College.

Greetings Corey!

Just wanted to say that I enjoyed what you've shared on this particular topic. And I must say that I totally agree with your #5 comment, how true - how true! A little family friendly sparring, challenge to grow in the Lord, or a call to look at issues from a different angel (such as the famous Bereans), but still on a Godly foundation can be encouraging and thought provoking to say the least. Especially among Brothers & Sisters in Christ here, both the old & new friends alike! :D However in all of our claims of being "Bereans," are we really giving others the same opportunity to do so, even when we don't quite see eye to eye? Just saying! :D Take care all, continuing on the specific/Godly paths that Yashua has placed each one of us on. Going forth in His might, power, Love & a sound mind. Seeking HIS Will above all else, sharing & extending the same Love & Grace that He always extends to us,out to others. Being a blessing, and being blessed in return for the pure motives of each of our own hearts. ;)

FOR HIS GLORY ALONE!
F.S.

I PRAY THAT I BE NOT A HINDRANCE! :)

Btw just wondering,

Have you ever heard the saying that "Christians are famous for shooting their own wounded?!" Kind of funny, but how true & sad! We are Bereans huh? We are One in the Spirit, we are One in The Lord, really?! Why is it okay and "Berean like," for some honored here to be able to debate, challenge and share, to encourage others to see "Our Berean points of view," but that same privilege doesn't apply to all at certain times? I have heard many "Truths here, spoken in not so Godly love, quite boldly actually," and then when others try to respond on an even playing field, they're then attacked falsely. Don't get me wrong, as I just as anyone, can allow MYself/MY pride/MY so called Knowledge, to get the better of me, and find myself better than others too. At that low point in our walks of faith, lets examine the situation on a whole to get the bigger/more Godly picture. Are Our all-knowing selves really being attacked, or are our feathers maybe just a little ruffled at times?! Lets all choose to be true Bereans and allow others to do so too, and try our best to take the higher/more Godly road. Preaching to myself here as well. Take care all and Keep on Keeping on with God, family & friends! Please forgive me if I've offended anyone, but after a few of these recent posted debates, I figured a friendly reminder couldn't hurt too much, but sorry if it does. ;) So hey Welcome aboard to all new members here! Buckle up, pray hard & enjoy the ride!!! :D

FOR HIS GLORY ALONE!
F.S. :)
