Still praying for you.
I have lost my job twice in the previous years and can imagine a little bit how you must feel right now.
Shalom, thank you for your concern and sharing your experiences.
I too have been laid off before this time with no job to go to. I was laid off in 2004 from a company here in VA they laid off the whole company and gave us severance pay. This company was a company that was hired by some telephone companies to hire operators to place international and other phone calls via a computer and headsets I worked there 2000 to 2004. After that I could not find another job at the time I took a teaching position at a Christian private school from Aug 2004 to June 2005 and it only paid $6 hr and I owned a townhouse at the time so I was able to sell it because back then the economy here was good and I was able to pay my bills from selling the townhouse till I was able to get a better paying job and that is how I ended up on the job I have now because a lady I use to go to church with worked for this co. and she referred me to her manager in 2005 who was a Christian too and he hired me in June 2005 and I have been working at this company for 14 yrs now in medical records. I was laid off from that doctors office that the lady from my church works at, but that same manager was able to get HR to find me another position at another doctors office for this same company.
My co. owns many doctors offices and hospitals here in VA and parts of NC, but they have closed down some hospitals and doctors offices so many people have experienced being laid off. Most of the time they try to find you another position if you sign their form to be put into a retention program which is what I and my dept did we all signed up to be in the retention program and we have 2 months in this program for HR to find us positions. Generally what happens is we have to look on my co job website to see what positions we qualify to do and then we have to tell the HR recruiter that is assigned to us what we are interested in and send our resume. If we are qualified to do that position and that job is still available the HR person will contact the manager of that job and let them know that we are in retention program and have us go over to that job and do a meet and greet with the manager and staff and generally you do not have to interview for the job because we were laid off and we already work for the company so its considered a transferring from one dept to another type thing if that makes any sense.
But I think I said before that my dept is all nonclinical and the healthcare system is changing because of electronic medical records they are downsizing staff and not needing really medical records staff any more because they can get all they need off the computer instead of using paper charts. I was in medical records in 2005 when we still had paper charts I learned everything I know on the job. My co. went up on electronic medical records starting in 2007. Each doctors office and hospital went up on electronic med records at different times and not all in the same year. By now I believe all of my co. is on electronic med records. Even the clinical staff has been affected by this as my co. tries to save money by downsizing the staff so there are not that many medical assistants (MA) , nurses, and lab techs, etc like we had before its down to a skeleton crew of people serving the patients we have.
I started out a file clerk in medical records and worked my way up through good performance to being a patient care rep (PCR) to what I am now a Health Records and Information tech. When I was at the first doctor's office under that manager that first hired me they were training me to be a supervisor and I trained with my supervisor for a while and my manager had my supervisor put over as a manager over a pain specialist office and she left me pretty much in charge of medical records, but still under her supervision this all was prior to them telling me that at that office they could not afford to keep me. So I have moved around 4 times now in this same company from different offices to now being centralized in a nonclinical building, but I stayed in medical records still even though I was moved around. I don't have any licenses or schooling for what I do. Today people go to school to learn Health records and info tech jobs, but I learned on the job. I also copied medical records for patients, law firms, and insurance companies. My main job is to import medical records from a computer fax server into the electronic med records where the patients' medical records charts are and I have to attach the medical document to the patients charts to an order created for the specific document I have like for example a colonoscopy has to be attached to a endo colonoscopy order then we send it to the doctor through the electronic med records to review the patients documents and sign off on it electronically. I like what I did and its hard to have to try to find something else. But like I said most if not all healthcare not just my co. are getting rid of medical records staff and so the only thing else I would be able to learn is front desk checking in patients maybe or receptionist that does not at the moment require me to go to school.
I am very sorry you too had to go through job losses. Its very hard. I have all these other things that are going on in my life that I cannot say that are hurting me even more than this job loss, but I cannot even deal with that because I have to find some kind of work to do to bring in income asap to keep my apartment and car. I live very frugal all my life and I don't spend money on anything unless I have to, but the cost of living here is high and I have had many car repairs that put me in financial hardship as well as past home repairs. The economy here is not great so its not easy to find a job and they don't pay much here due to it being a military area plus VA is a commonwealth state too.
I have applied for over 30 something jobs online and even part time anything that will make money and it seems many companies are so strict on getting into their company even though I applied for jobs I have skills and experience in doing.
Thank you for your time and prayers. I do very much appreciate it. I pray God bless you in every area of your life as well and all those connected to you. I pray that God provides for you and that all your needs are met in Yeshua's name.
Shalom
