I am back here for the first time in 70 hours because, at 5am Monday, our power went out here in Fort Worth, and there is no prediction of when it will be coming back on. The water department's power is also off, so everyone's water has to be boiled, which one can't do without power. We have spent the last two nights with our apartment at about 50 degrees, and this afternoon our pipes burst in a bathroom while we were away for about 15 minutes and flooded most of the apartment. Relatively minimal damage, but I had to do a lot of repositioning things. We've been getting to know a Jehovah's Witness neighbor who spent last night with her daughter at our place, and tonight a JW friend of hers offered to put us up at her 1-bedroom apartment -- first shower in 3 days! What a blessing!
Here's what I choose to believe was the Hand of God in this. I had just yesterday left my most valuable Old Testament Bible on the floor, with some other things piled on it. I assumed it would be ruined, but when I bent down to pick it up in the dim light (no power, remember), I saw that the flowing water in that room had parted within a couple inches of reaching the Bible and flowed to either side, then the flows rejoined each other on the other side of the Bible, leaving a 1-2" dry space all the way around it -- it entirely escaped harm.
