The “Dones”. People who are done with church

Progressive Christianity is characterized by a willingness to question tradition, acceptance of human diversity, a strong emphasis on social justice and care for the poor and the oppressed, and environmental stewardship of the earth. Wikipedia
The blogger’s definition may be different....
After a bit more reading about it- progressive Christianity is not something I’m claiming to be a part of...I found the article interesting.

Most of this community are 'Dones.' We have discovered that there is much truth in Scipture that has been intentionally or unintentionally hidden, but when we shared the truth we found, the church itself looked at us and said, 'you're done!'

Their left foot of fellowship, painful at the time, became our launching pad into real freedom to follow the Messiah. We now are members of a small home fellowship that I drinks deeply of the Word and I wouldn't trade it for a pew, denominational identity, or pipe organ.

Done, da-done done, DONE!

Yeah baby!

Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”

When the Word of God is not being taught, the Word of God being our sustenance, we sheep become hungry and we follow the The Shepherd’s voice and He leads us beside the still waters, and causes us to lie down in green pastures, where the grass is thick and nutritious.

Sometimes the Word is not taught because of negligence, but I think, more often it is twisted to bring some person shameful gain.

Lord, please lead us beside the still waters, cause us to lie down in green pastures, where we might be nourished by your Word and restore our souls, I pray.

I’m so thankful now for the crucible we went through. So thankful to be done. Having a form of godliness, and totally irrevocably denying the power that they claim to represent.

We’ve been to one “church” service since, I was amazed to find that the familiar comfortable liturgy and mantra was like ashes in my mouth. 10 minutes into it and we were looking at each other and wondering why we were even there.

I have long considered myself spiritual and non religious. The "Dones" sadden me. We cant live without Yeshua, He is the hope of mankind.
I was recently talking with some friends about how the image of "the church" is changing. People are leaving the buildings and developing communities of like minded people.... similar to what we have here. We don't always see eye to eye but most will go to bat for you if it is needed. We pray for eachother, care for eachother, when one is ill we are there in whatever capacity we can be. Their are many wounded "Christians" walking amongst us everywhere we go. Many are the "Dones" done with church, done with God done with religion. They are spiritually "the walking dead". It is my belief and I believe my calling not to preach to those that are "Done" but love them and serve them in hopes that they will see the love of Yeshua through me. I don't always get it right and sometimes I stick my foot in my mouth... up to my thigh LOL but I don't give up. I believe as the church (body) we can't afford to give up. Those "Dones" are our parents, children, sisters and brothers. Yeshua is never Done with us.

What does he mean by “Progressive Christianity”?

Looking at his facebook, pretty sure he means it in the political sense. So he's a true believing liberal. Basically just another garden variety socialist lefty with a thin veneer of Christianity. The kind that supports the murderous immigration invasion, gay pastors, and gun control. The kind of guy that believes in a genderqueer God and taught his kids that God isn't to be referred to as Father.

We have all seen how the church is good about burying their wounded. I recently wrote a song using this scripture,
Galatians 5:22–23
the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

I wrote it wondering, what would the church be like today if we strived to put these ‘fruits’ into our lives, into our churches.

When I was young, the preacher would preach that your fruits were those we showed into the church, shared the gospel with. Now I know what Mathew 7:16 meant when it said ‘You will know them by their fruits’ and I have to wonder, what would the church be like today if our fruits were love, joy, peace, etc.

How many more things has the church taken out of context?

I think that you are describing the Nones.
The Dones are only done with Churchianity.

The fruit of the spirit is one of my favorite studies. The last church I attended I was the women's pastor. I was teaching a class on the fruit when the members of the church turned against eachother. It was a sad sight. I have found that when learning the fruit it calls us to action. We either stay in our comfort zone and make no changes to our heart condition which often leads a separation. Or we embrace it and our lives are transformed. They are qualities in which we must cultivate them into our hearts and minds.

How right you are! Fruit isn’t works, good works are done by Christians because of the fruit of the Spirit in their hearts. The fruit grows naturally as we grow in Christ.

Most churches today, even the ones that try to be superdy duper lovey, are very works based in their teaching. They don’t rightly discern between Law and Gospel. It is Christ’s kindness that leads us to repentance. Christians are browbeaten every Sunday with how they need to step it up in their walk, love your neighbor more, do more for them, bring more people to church, give more money (probably the real reason you should bring more people to church) THAT’S LAW. When what they really need is to be reminded that Christ bled and died for their sins and that their sins are forgiven by God. Christians need to be taught that Scripture points to Christ, it’s all about Him, and we fit in because He has redeemed us by His own Blood. Trees don’t struggle to squeeze fruit out, it just happens naturally as they grow. The fruit of the Spirit is produced naturally in our lives as we grown in the grace and knowledge of our Savior. All those good works will start happening naturally and be done in love when we realize how much debt we have each been forgiven of. The load of guilt and the burden of our sins is lifted off of our backs and we are filled with joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.

Well obviously they’ve misconstrued the Family Structure:...Christ, Husband, Wife, children. (Eph.5:23) They’ve turned permissible things into ‘thou shalt not’, such as PM, and so on. The headship and authority of the husband has been taken away- I mean given away. Now Christ’s authority is gone- it’s the Pastor’s words of “truth” we live by, not “The Word”. Why do you think PM is hard for many of us women? (this isn’t the only reason). We have been taught it’s okay to have the Pastor’s authority over our own husband’s. It may be absurd to say- there’s been a seed planted to fear man, more than God. We are taught to not go home and see what our husband’s belief is, ( 1Chor. 14:34-35), And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home:), because the Pastor has inserted himself into the Husband’s place of authority, love and leadership. We dare not go home after a sermon and correct his message.
I know we had to do that SO often!
I think our family was ‘done’ and didn’t know or realize that there was another way to Assemble together and still be acceptable to God. We held on to the traditions of man as if it were counted for righteousness towards us...
if we are the Temple, and His Spirit is in us, we bring forth that fruit. The “Church” we know today is showing it’s fruit. It’s showing from what seed it originally sprouted from. I know I can list a handful of things we’ve been redirected (deceitfully lead)from believing what the word says as truth.

I have reread the article and seen the author’s position a bit more clearly.
While he describes The Dones perfectly, he makes the mistake of believing that they are leaving the Churches when they shouldn’t be. He doesn’t understand the bankruptcy of Churchianity. He thinks that The Dones are rejecting spiritual community, when in reality they are seeking a better version of spiritual community and finding it in ways that are less structured than the Traditional.
I followed his link far enough to see that he believes that the SJW mindset is true Christianity.
But yet he ends with a very positive note:

“So, here’s to the rise of the Dones!

May your voices finally be heard, and if they’re not, may you find a new path to a healthy spiritual community that is not so littered with obstacles from the past.”

Preach it, brother!

It's not about better community, its worse than that: you can't find true community in most churches. It's just not there.

I believe that we are saying the same thing. The spiritual community in traditional churches is artificial, but seemingly adequate for the average pew-warmer. You are right, it isn’t true community.

I spy parallels (ok too many kid books)

People:
Most today think that a piece of paper from a state makes them married.
Churches:
A denominational label means they are christian.

People:
They think that love is pure approval, and correction is not love.
Churches:
This is our doctrinal statement and we WILL NOT CHANGE.
You are trying to destroy true christianity....."your bible" must be wrong.

People:
Confusing "personal identity" and "me time" fun with the real happiness, that comes from work, service and personal growth.
Churches:
We have great programs!

And finally
Beliefs and feelings are the same as truth.
Wife:
I don't "feel" like my husband appreciates me. = He doesn't love me.
Churches and the people who love them:
Well, we don't "feel" that polygyny is God's best. = God was wrong and the state legislated morality is better.

Truth says:
Love is unconditional but we correct those we love, not because we want to destroy them but so that they can enjoy real happiness by following correct principles that lead to the well being and prosperity of the whole of mankind and the world.

Let YHWH (God) be true and every man a liar.

"Welcome to mystery Babylon! My name is Prophesy and I'm your tour guide. Yes this was the premium party destination of the world, but the red queen is very bloodthirsty. She is about to over fill her cup.
Yes, your rapture ticket is good, but that flight is scheduled for after the fireworks. Your current assignment is still to be salt and light. Help as many as you can get their tickets too, and get ready for the tare removal and harvest that is coming.
The king will remove the bloodthirsty queen, and your witness may be able to help identify the queens minions. There is armor available, but truly you don't need to worry about getting killed. The King has conquered death and has promised none of His servants will miss the homecoming celebration. Your ticket will get you there from any point of origin on earth, or the grave.
Fear not. Look for the light. Be strong."

"Labor to bring forth oh captive daughter of Tsion."

In labor, transition is where you want to give up...and many women do (gimme an epidural or c-section!) ....but that is right before you can PUSH and DO SOMETHING! The great and dreadful day approaches. The day of deliverence... the natal day of the reign of Christ! I'm so glad the last chapter is written! We can look forward to the end knowing that nothing can separate us from the love of God. The author and finisher of our faith.

I'm sure no writer....this is just musings in type.
