The Orion Correlation Theory...

(For those out of the loop that is an intended pun)

I tend to be a "young earth" Christian, yet there are times when I find things in science to be very interesting. Some of the following statements may seem heretical but they are simply an exercise in imagination.

A few years ago I saw a couple of documentaries that I found to be very interesting...Robert Schoch (who has a Ph.D. in geology and geophysics from Yale) did an interesting examination of the Sphinx finding it to be considerably older than otherwise thought. Another documentary moved the alignment of Orion back about 12,000 years at which point it seemingly lines up with the three Great Pyramids.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orion_Correlation_Theory

Apparently about 12,000 years ago The Sphinx would have lined up with the rising sun at the beginning of the Age of Leo. Some have postulated that originally 12,000 years ago the Sphinx was actually a lion and carved out of solid rock for this occasion along with the pyramids being built as a celestial map. Most notably the head of the Sphinx is now proportionately much smaller than it should be, and the proportions of the face are those of a black man, most likely an Ethiopian not an Egyptian, according to a New York Police forensic expert.

With the Age of Aquarius coming and the Mayan Calendar running out at the end of the Age of Pisces there has been a lot of speculation relating to these Ages and the past 12,000 years.

Do you think there was an advanced civilization 12,000 years ago?

Do you think anything will happen at the end of the Age of Pisces?

well, how do the scientists factor in things like whether or not the sun stood still in one story, and moved backwards in another?

or the theory that the earth was knocked off of its magnetic north/south axis by a glacial astroid?

speculation is interesting, but for assumptions about what we deduce from todays circumstances and extrapolating it out thousands of years must keep our Creator bustin-up laughing :D

i hope something interesting will happen at the end of the Mayan callender, but who knows, the author might have just stopped there because a jaguar hijacked the thread of his life ;)

just funnin, no sarcasm intended

I wonder if the Mayan calendar ends when it does because they understood the zodiac better than we think they did and it was simply the end of an age and since it was long in the future there was no need to go further than that.

could be, and that will be so disappointing.

i was really hoping that Y2K was going to be more fun "sigh"
i so love horses, gardening, etc.

My younger sister was VERY prepared for the Y2K that never happened and called me two weeks after it passed wanting to know if I was interested in a boat load of "survival stuff". I laughed and told her no thanks...

I don't think there will be any cataclysmic events in the very near future, but I was interested to learn recently that the earth's axis has a wobble to it which is what moves us through the "ages" in the stars. It is also interesting to me that there are 12 Ages and the Sphinx and the great pyramids might date back to the Age of Leo - about 12,000 years ago. When I come across things with the number 12 I tend to pay a little more attention to them. I also sometimes wonder if there might be considerably more going on than we are told about in the scriptures. Not that it would contradict the scriptures, just that there may be things that are not mentioned because they do not NEED to be there.

I also sometimes wonder if there might be considerably more going on than we are told about in the scriptures.
i agree, it would be most arrogant of us to assume that He had nothing more than what He has shared with us :?

Yes! 6 or so thousand years ago, "God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." Gen. 1:28

At the end of this Age, which I'm believing is Aquarius, I believe that TIME is coming to an end. How we respond to the awakening of this TRUTH is the event.

The constellation of Orion, I believe is a station for the Brotherhood of Light. I also, believe there are pyramids on Mars & the Moon. Yes, we have been Hoodwinked, Bamboozled, Led Astray. :x

Theorizing is fun but, when we get into astrology we are getting into the ancient Babylonian religion that has caused so many people to be deceived and kept from the light of God. It is one of the basic parts of most occult philosophies.

This is what hurt me. Men and Woman come to this site so that they can find support with Marriage and understanding God's word. Now, I have no problem with people believing this kind of Mythology because some people believe that Christian believe wrongly.

Now with that said I think this kind of talk is outside the Bible and is in all purposes un-biblical and ungodly. Christ is our focus and not the moon or mars and remember the warning that is in Romans 1:21-25

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

So Please don't be the person that has there eye on Creation when we should have our focus on Christ our God and Savior. God Spoke of these people like this "Claiming to be wise, they became fools". Please don't do that to yourself, Christ loved you and Die for you so that you would not have to spend forever were we all deserve to go, "Hell". He wants to save people from this place

Just to clarify my position, I am interested in Science, Astronomy (not Astrology), and History. Interestingly enough most astronomers believe in God because they have studied His creation in the heavens and know that it wasn't an accident. I believe that all creation is in travail awaiting the restoration of man. What I find interesting (as in a curiosity) is the "ages" of the astronomical periods and what if any significance there may be to them. Will they continue when the new Earth and the new Heaven and the new Jerusalem are set in place?

Isaiah 60:15 Whereas you have been forsaken and hated, with no one passing through, I will make you majestic forever, a joy from age to age.

(sounds pretty perpetual to me)

Matthew 12:32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

(I'm sure I will get some clarification on this in replies)

Matthew 24:3 As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?"

(The disciples knew that there was a schedule in place)

God created all things, and Satan often counterfeits what God has made for His purposes (thus astrology). Is it not possible for the 12 (interesting number) "Ages" to be relevant to us as believers in some way?

When I proposed that there might be more going on than we have been told Steve had this comment:
"i agree, it would be most arrogant of us to assume that He had nothing more than what He has shared with us"

To me it is all an interesting curiosity...I'm not off chasing stars and planets looking for signs or anything like that...I just find some of the scientific discoveries to be very interesting. How and why was the Sphinx carved out of one large rock? Why is the head disproportionate to the body? Who actually built the Pyramids and why, and why are they aligned the way they are?

Aliens? Well maybe if angels manifested themselves and their appearance was not understood. But I think there are better explanations.

Which way should I head with this one...? or maybe i should change my avatar again...

The word translated as "replenish" in Genesis 1:28 is a primitive root meaning "to be full," "to fill," "to complete." (Definition taken from Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew definitions, available as an add-on module to the e-Sword package.) It does not mean "fill it again" as the word "replenish" in the King James translation implies.

Romans 5:12 KJV Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

There was no death until after Adam ate the "apple." Therefore, there was no created life - human, plant, animal, or little green men from Mars who built the Sphinx and the pyramids - until plant life was created on the third day (Genesis 1:11-12). The only possible exception to there being no created life before plant life was created in verse 11 might be that some angels were created prior to the third day, according to the late giant of Young-Earth Creationism, Dr. Henry Morris. [Morris, p. 57]

God has by necessity, only given us a small volume of available knowledge. We couldn't handle, withour human finite minds as great as the are, the scope of all that God is and has around Him. I think Steve's choice of words, "arrogant" is correct if we think we have all the knowledge there is. The Bible, with all it's boundless revelation of God and mankind, is only one telescope focused on one place at a time (generally speaking), what are we not seeing while looking through it's lens? I am confident that God has reserved that for later, since He only gave us one telescope. Scarecrow, I share your curiosity in many of the phenomenal reaches of God's creation and wonder, too about all there is yet to learn. Bless you and all of us that investigate and yearn for all that God is and has. Perhaps, I was over sensitive, but the line between astronomy and astrology is often unobserved by well meaning believers. Thank you for the assurance of your awareness. One thing I know for sure is that I have no desire for space travel. Airplanes are trouble enough. I always want to be able to walk home if necessary.

The one that I think about sometimes is where Christ mentions he has sheep in another fold.

John 10
14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

I think the Mormon claims or gentiles do not fulfill this scripture (verse 16). Yet, the fact that Christ says it and it is such a large statement baffles the mind. It can be trivialized as if he were talking about Samaritans or something or enlarged to life on other planets. But however taken it seems a majestic thing. It almost mocks our minds and says we are not on a "need to know" basis. I mean Christ with another fold? Wow, that's like a man having another bride or wife!

When I first finished college and started working I was a bit bored so I took more classes at night. One of them was statistics. It was a very interesting study. Considering that my God is infinite, and it appears that so is His creation, it is difficult for me to believe that He picked one tiny speck in space and stopped there. Although what we are told of is the here and now I think there will be/are wonders and wonders to explore. I also think God wants us to keep our thoughts here and now...to attend to the needs on the ground on this planet...He prepared good works for us to walk in...and never mentioned doing it in a space suit.

I don't remember where I came across it, but I seem to remember reading something (from the Apostle Paul maybe) about seeing into heaven and to try to describe it in human terms would be blasphemy...in any case I am certain that it is beyond our ability to imagine or describe.

John...you're missing out on the fun...I intend to build one of these as soon as possible...

Scarecrow,
You just lost all the points you had gained over the past few days. I cannot believe you voluntarily tood statistics and call it interesting. It was all I could do to pass it.

Hey Scarecrow, that does look like fun! I once knew one of the engineers with Bede aircraft, near Witchita, KS. I had a tie tac replica of the Bede 5.
I'd feel better about flying if they would let me drive.

OK...now I have to tell my "Statistics" story...

We were assigned two to a desk...the guy that I ended up sitting next to and I got along great. We were both enjoying the class. All the way through we had both aced every quiz and exam and it came time for the final test...the pressure was on...would we end up in a tie or would one of us make a mistake. The instructor knew of our competitive spirit so at the end of the exam he graded our tests and my classmate made one mistake and ended up with a 95% and I managed to avoid the mistake he made and aced the final. I felt like I won the Super Bowl!

About 6 months later a different friend of mine came by on a motorcycle and asked if I wanted to go for a ride...I said sure...I was bored anyway. After a while we were stopped by a police officer. My friend had borrowed the motorcycle from his brother in law without permission and it had been reported stolen. After talking to my friend for a minute the police officer looked at me and stated "Scarecrow?!?!" (he actually used my real name) I hadn't recognized him in his uniform and hat...he was my classmate from the statistics class!! Without checking my license he looked at me and moving his head up and down he said "You have a motorcycle endorsement on your license don't you." knowing full well I probably didn't...being a little surprised and frightened yet I just followed his lead and nodded my head. Then he said "Put your friend on the back of this thing and take it back where it belongs. You do know how to drive one of these right?" Having once driven one I told him "yes". Off we went back to his brother in laws house...and everyone lived happily ever after...

"I'd feel better about flying if they would let me drive."

It will have dual sticks... ; )
