What kind of music do you like?

My favourite NZ album - The Parachute Band. I played one of the songs off this at the retreat, Pure and Holy. The song at the beginning and end is called Aue and is partly in Maori. The words basically mean "Oh the blood of the Lord".

Greg Lake from ELP playing his song "From the Beginning"

It reminds me of the girl I lost.

Great song.

Now I'm gonna hafta figure out how he's playing it. I learned it from another picker and Greg's voicings are so much sweeter....

Crap music?

Thought so....

:D

Did you follow Greg later (C'est la vie, etc)?

Hosanna Integrity, Hillsong, Bethel Music, James Taylor, Tommy Emanuel, Santana, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brithers, Marshall Tucker Band, Alabama, George Straight, Garth Brooks, Allison Cross, Eagles, Blues, Eric Clapton, Kansas, Bob Segar, Credence, Stray Cats. Just to name a few.

Although I mentioned a lot of secular artists, I listen to Praise and Worship about 90-95% of the time.

Since music pretty much quit being recorded after 1979 I really don't know what most of you are going on about. I think Right Said Fred briefly revived music so that 90s country could happen but other than that I refer you to the classic American Pie.
Loved Don McLean and most music from his era... rock, balladiers and even the rock operas... (The Who, Floyd, Bowie... :D )

Anybody like rap music?

(crickets)

Didn't, think so.
I do, just depends on what artist.

Most of the music I like is rhythmically complex rock or funk. I was a drummer for a living (or a small fraction of a living) for years before I got married and needed to provide more.

Here are a few examples of music I like

Oh also I love good choir music

It seems like the choir stuff might match more of people's taste here on the board. If so check out the Westminster choir, so much good stuff!

Ok, so I sold myself a bit short earlier. There was a period I went through a while back where I tried listening to more modern-ish pop (?) music, but of a humerous/novelty nature (I even overcame my cultural dislike of electric guitars and drumkits). This mostly meant listening to two composers: Weird Al Yankovic (of parody fame), and Jonathan Coulton.

Coulton wrote mostly jokey nerd-culture songs, about mad scientists, zombie coworkers, disgruntled computer programmers, monkeys, cyborgs, giant squid, and other such "sad, lonely monster" characters (a metaphor for the modern single beta male).

Someone above mentioned Sir Mix-a-lot. The only reason I know that name is because Coulton once did an extremely "white"-sounding down-tempo acoustic guitar and banjo cover of Baby Got Back, which I otherwise would have remained blissfully unaware of.

I refer you to the classic American Pie.
See, this is another example of my musical ignorance. I don't know this song, and wouldn't even be aware of its existence, except that it's the original for Weird Al's Star-War-themed Saga Begins.

Anybody like rap music?

No, but I think everyone here can probably laugh at Weird Al's Amish Paradise. (Or is that hip-hop? I don't understand genre labels).
